Dear BBB,I am writing to lodge a formal complaint against a contractor I hired for a garage flooring job at my new home, which he failed to complete despite receiving significant payment. The contractor, who's identity and legitimacy is in question, offered to do an epoxy coating for my 3-car garage. His initial estimate for the job was $1200, payable in cash, stating this was a "good offer."I met the contractor on the 28th of June, during which he requested 60% ($720) of the total amount to begin work on the following day. He assured me that the job would be completed within 2-3 days. After performing this insufficient cleaning for less than an hour, he demanded an additional $200 cash. Although I was skeptical, I paid the additional amount due to my urgency to complete the job, as I am currently paying the mortgage for two homes. In the following three weeks, despite my numerous attempts to contact him, the contractor only returned once to my property, agreeing that the garage floor remained dirty and promising to redo the cleaning. However, for two weeks after this visit, he failed to reappear for the job and continuously postponed the work. Often, he would promise to come but never show up, ignoring my calls and only rarely responding to my messages and voicemails. When I requested a receipt for the $920 cash I had given him, he suggested that the contract he provided served as a receipt, a statement that raised further doubts for **** am now deeply concerned that I have fallen victim to a scam. Not only am I left with an incomplete garage floor, but I also had to bear the cost of a mortgage for two properties during this time, a situation that I hoped to avoid by hiring a contractor who promised a quick job completion. Please find photographs and correspondence. Your intervention will prevent others from falling victim to such fraudulent practices.I am ready to provide any further information or evidence required.

The ************ ***************** confirmed that this individual does not have business license even though he confirmed he has one before he took my money.

      Hello ****,

Thank you for the update and reaching out about this complaint!

I had a case opened with ************ ***************** and they did investigation on that company. They determined that this person is fraud and he was conducting business without business license, which is a crime in ******. The Case number I have with them is # ********.

The individual appears to be convicted felon with previous arrests. ************ ***************** determined that the individual's name is ************************************, born on 03/14/1978, height 6' 1?. *************************** ****** was arrested in Hays County *****. 12/28/2022. He might have more arrests, but this is the one that popped up on the first page on the search results as soon as I typed his name.

After the completed investigation by ************ *****************, they advised me that I can start a Small Claims Court case against him, but I am afraid for the safety of my family since he knows where I live.

Is there any other way you can assist with that or advise what I can possibly do to claim my money back or to at least someone can stop him to conduct fraud and stealing people's money?

      Thank you very much!
