My mother has been a home hospice patient cared for by Eldercare Hospice since November 2023. A physician from Eldercare Hospice has never come to examine my mother. She has a history of dementia, documented in her medical records, which began prior to entering **********************, and has rapidly progressed. Nursing care has visited her twice weekly, documenting her dementia and her physical decline. Last week, the hospice services have termed my mother's death "eminent". She is clearly non-decisional. I was advised my mother's financial institution to obtain a letter from her physician stating that she is unable to make financial decisions at this time-- something I could have pursued months ago if I had known it was necessary. I discussed this with Eldercare Hospice nurse on April **************************************************** ASAP. I have called daily for the past eight days. On April 29 a physician phoned and left a message on my cell phone, but when I phoned back I got no answer. I have been told by the nursing staff that the physician does not see patients, he will not sign the requested paperwork and he will not speak to me. His nurse told me that he wanted the nurses to report me to Protective Services for requesting this paperwork. This behavior is nonsensical to me, medically negligent and unprofessional. If for some reason the physician feels this letter is unwarranted, I believe it is his duty to speak with me, my mother's POA and Healthcare POA, to discuss. PLease help me.
