The company I have a complaint about is:NTA Travel?Phone: **************** | Fax: **************** changes@***.travel | www.***.travel Date of issue :Scam call on 9 June 2023.NTA Travel took $1,142.19 USD from my credit card on 20 June 2023 Brief description of complaint On 9 June 2023, NTA travel contacted my employer EuroHPC JU to organise hotel reservations for a conference to be held in ****** in November 2023. The travel agent reserved rooms in ******, and told me over the phone that I should provide a credit card to guarantee the rooms only. The representative explained that payment would be taken upon arrival at the hotel and that the travel agent would not use the card. They put a lot of pressure for me to sign very quickly to secure the rooms. The document I signed was not what I was told on the phone. The travel agent has since denied that these conversations have taken place.NTA Travel has taken payment of a deposit, but I only received an invoice AFTER payment was made (after I asked for it.)I have asked them to cancel the reservation and to reimburse the deposit that was taken off my credit card.So far, they have refused to do so. I enclose some of the correspondence with NTA Travel for your information. As you can imagine, I have no wish to work with this organisation any further.

      Customer response

      08/09/2023

Following my complaint to BBB.org, and also the fact that I have asked my credit card issuer to investigate ***.Travel, I sent this final email to NTA Travel to put on the record that:

I would like any potential reservations to be cancelled, that I not knowingly authorised any pre-payment of the reservations over the ********** teams) phone conversations. and that I would like the funds taken from my credit card to be reimbursed.

This is the response I got. Clearly, this organisation is not interested in finding any resolution.

I have not had any further communications with ***.Travel since then. I have not contacted them again as I am waiting for news  from you and my credit card issuer.

Thanks a lot for your support

      best wishes ***************************

      - On Nov 2021, our company, Revival Health, paid *** Travel ("***") $13,462.50 for hotel rooms at ******************** Resort in ********* (documents attached). - On Dec 10, 2021, we had to cancel our trip to CES Las Vegas due to to Covid-19 surge across the nation. *** charged us a 25% fee and provided a Credit Memo (Memo Number 1111093CM) of $10,096.87 to use within 12 months (documents attached).- On Nov 2022, we rebooked hotel rooms through *** and it was paid for and confirmed (documents attached).- On Dec 2, 2022, we reached back out to *** to make changes to our reservations. - On Dec 5, 2022, reservation forms with guest, credit card info, etc were provided to ***, per NTA's request. Room rates provided were 25% higher than the hotel website rates. When asked why the difference was so large, they dismissed it to pre-negotiated rates.- On Dec 7, 2022, agent at *** (*****) said 2 of the 3 rooms were booked but issue with credit card info for the last room. During this phone call, I asked for a break down of total cost to ensure payment would go through sufficiently. Agent unwilling to provide any breakdown of cost. Simply said it would cost roughly $3,300 more. The nightly rates of all rooms totaled $10,791. With a credit of $10,096.87, I wanted to know what the additional $3,300 was for. Unwilling to provide, became argumentative. Finally he said he'd provide it over email. - About 10 minutes later, I received call from a different agent saying they were cancelling our credit and no longer helping us. I asked how that was possible when we were just about to complete an upcoming reservation. He said the credits expired, citing a contract no one at our company has any record or recollection of. - On Dec 8, 2022, I emailed *** asking for a copy of the contract. No response. (documents attached).- Our #1 goal is to get the $10,096.87 credit refunded as this company is deceitful, unreliable and unprofessional. #2 goal is to complete the reservations.

National Travel Associates, LLC has started contacting our trade show exhibitors by phone asking "how many hotel rooms they want to book for (our event)." While they are not claiming to be associated with us, they are inferring they are a service provider. This is malicious and deceitful. In addition, their website is listed as "Not Secure" by Chrome and only loads a blank black screen. This is highly suspicious. We have added the following warning to our website and emailed our exhibitor group.NEW SCAM ALERT Be on alert for calls or emails from National Travel Associates, LLC (***). Some exhibitors have been contacted and asked how many rooms they would like to book for *************.We are in no way associated with ***, have not given them permission to contact you, have not shared your contact information, and their contracts appear to be misleading and unfair. They have been reported to Better Business Bureau (BBB) multiple times by other groups. This company, NTA Travel (National Travel Associates, LLC) continues to call me 1 - 2 times per day asking to speak with the events coordinator and saying they are with a specific Trade Association calling about a specific event and they need to finalize our hotel reservations. The events they are citing are correct and we are indeed attending them. The trade associations do publish the companies exhibiting on their websites, which is how they are getting our information. Every time they call I ask them to stop calling me and remove me from their database and they always say they have never called me before and they are with the trade association just needing to finalize our hotel reservations.

I got a call from NTA Travel July 25, 2022. They told me they were participating with the Expo where my company was scheduled to be an exhibitor and where offering "special exhibitor rates" for hotels and I had to act quickly to secure a reservation. The initial caller was very knowledgable about the expo and of me and my company. They assure me that they were an official participator with the expo, so I asked to see what rates they could offer me. I ended up getting 4 rooms at a hotel that met my requirements, but at a seemingly uncompetitive rate. Basically I was getting these rooms for full price, but I was continually assured that I was getting "special exhibitor rates". We settled on 4 rooms at the Comfort Inn (Gaslamp) at $159 a night. So it was my belief that I would be accountable for $2,544 total for the reservation. I was then presented with a contract/payment form that I was pushed to complete as soon as possible. Up until this point it had been my belief that I would not be charged for the full amount and I would be able to cancel at any moment, as long as it wasn't 72 hours before the reservation date. The payment form has a very deceptive black header where it states, only once, that this is a pre-paid authorization form, as well as an agreement to extra charges that was never mentioned at all. I mention this because the rest of the form is white and therefore it was very easy to overlook this black header as blank space. When I submitted it, I hadn't noticed this header stating the most crucial bit of information; That my card (personal card) would be charged the full amount, plus extra fees. I ended up being charged $3,180 instead of $2,544. $636 more that we agreed on. When I asked for a refund, they pointed me to the black header that I obviously did not see. They took money from my kids and I'll only be able to get back $795 of the $3,180. These practices are criminal and need to be stopped. I also believe they're using fake identities in emails.

Business Response /* (1000, 8, 2022/08/25) */ The customer sent an email stating the following: "I would like to cancel my booking completely with you as we have made some staff changes." As per your signed contract there is a 25% cancellation fee of the original total cost and the remaining balance due from cancellation would be applied as a credit for the customer's future travel. Please refer to your contract for your terms and conditions.

My office manager was contacted by an NTA Travel Agent claiming to be affiliated in some way with The **** Show (a conference we were scheduled and booked to attend in October). They claimed we were about to miss a deadline for hotel bookings for the conference and insisted we fill out the reservation forms to reserve rooms with the option to change and cancel up to 25 days before the conference. They obtained my information via aa hotel reservation form they sent out and sent a confirmation and invoice once complete. I was able to contact The **** Show and determine that the NTA Travel employee I spoke to (Jennifer) waasa not affiliated with The. **** Show in any way and that NTA Travel was not a vendor connected to the conference. I also confirmed that hotel reservation options do not open until June 15th, thus realizing that the NTA Travel agent lied over the phone about the deadline. My card was charge for a "deposit" on the rooms on 5/30. I called the hotel listed on the Reservation Form and confirmed with the hotel that there are no bookings reserved under my name or any of the employee names I provided to NTA Travel. Since realizing we've been scammed, I've cancelled my card am attempting to get a refund of the deposit charge since no hotel booking was actually made. After reading previous BBB reviews and responses from NTA Travel it is clear they record conversations va phone as a way to get away with this. I was not informed the call would be recorded or asked for consent to record. I am looking for a refund of the total deposit.

NTA Travel deceptively positioned themselves as working with a tradeshow in Las Vegas and contacted me both by phone and email in regards to a room block to confirm our reservations. They had the information on where our group was staying, the dates, and the number of room nights. I had no reason to believe that they were not working with the show organizers and completed their forms so we wouldn't lose our room block. After speaking with the show organizers they confirmed that NTA Travel is in fact a scam and is notorious for preying on conference attendees. They have since charged us by credit card, though no services were performed. I am seeking a full refund.

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2022/02/18) */ The customer signed a prepaid contract to make her reservation with us. At no point of time did any of our representatives advise the customer that we are working on behalf or affiliated with any organization as she falsely claimed. The reservation remained confirmed and the customer was a no-show. As per the customers signed contract we do not offer refunds for no-shows.

I was contacted by a representative from NTA Travel claiming that they were working with ******* (an event where we were vendors previously, but had stepped back from this year). Even though I told the agent that we were not exhibitors (they said they were handling the special exhibitor pricing for hotel rooms) they told me that I still could get the discounted rate, and if we decided not to attend we wouldn't be charged. I told them I needed confirmation from my supervisor before we were willing to pay for the event, and they said they would call me the next day but in the meanwhile, sent me a form to fill out to "reserve" the room. We were charged full price even though NO ONE called me and we are not going to attend the show. I reached out the next day and was told a case was opened and I'd be contacted within 24 hours. Nothing. That was five days ago, and I called them again today and was told that I was lying and there was no misrepresentation on their part.

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2021/09/30) */ At no point of time did any of our representatives advise you that we are working with or on behalf of any organization. Your signed agreement and terms and conditions that you agreed to in writing clearly states that in the event of cancelling your reservation there will be a cancellation fee and the remaining balance would be in-store credit. Currently you have a dispute case open with **** to review your claims upon its completion you will be contacted. Consumer Response /* (3000, 7, 2021/10/04) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) As noted in many other complaints about this business, they refuse to take responsibility for their lies and misinformation. They charge a 25% cancellation fee despite assuring me when booking that everything could be changed and no fees would be charged.
