Got contacted today 9/12/23 by a guy that said I won a sweepstakes for 5.5 million dollars. He wanted me to get a $300 Amazon card and give him the numbers. I didn't get a Amazon card. He was on the phone with me the whole time I went to the store. I told the guy on the phone I didn't have $300. He wanted to know how much I had. I told him $100. He said go to CVS and get a vanilla **** card. I got it. I figured i could at least get a charge back and get my money back. Called tonight, said I had to get a money order in the morning before he came and send it to this bogus address for my taxes. He said he was bringing $750,000 with him in a brief case. He gave me an address to send the money order too. I checked it out. It was a house up for sale?? of course, I checked this American awards out and her I am. I texted it. It wasn't very nice, then he called me. I told him I wasn't getting a money order. He got angry and said I didn't understand. He said you have to get this money order! I said NO, I don't have to do anything and hung up, he was still angry when I hung up on him. These guys are good. I believed him for awhile, till I checked here and Googled American awards. Beware. I'm hoping I get my $100 back. I'm sure they'll give it back. I have the card and receipt. They took the $100 an used it on Amazon for something.

I'm making this complaint for my 81 year old father...On August 22, 2023, he received a phone call from a man named *********************** claiming that he worked for Federal Express. My father is to receive a package the next day and sign for it. ****** claims its a Check from American Cash Rewards based in ********. My father is suppose to take this check to the bank and cash it.My father then calls me with this information and I called then number. Sure enough a *********************** answers the line and claims that he works for Federal Express and has a package for my father that he needs to sign for. I asked him what this was for, he tells me that it's a check from American Cash Rewards and that he's suppose to go to Bank of America because that's the bank the check is written from. Ah...where are you located? I'm in *********...why is your number 213 then? He didn't answer the question.Less than an hour later my father calls me again, telling me that *********************** called him again and even had his supervisor speak to my father telling him that he needs to take the check and deposit it or cash it and to give them 1% of the money he receives. My father told them "you need to call my daughter she's my power of attorney." They never called me....This scam is not new...I worked for the ************** of a police department and I am very familiar with this scam. The scam goes: they send you a check, you cash it and send them certain amount of money received; the victim then buys a gift card(s) or actually sends money to the perp and within a few days the victim is overdrawn on their account or receive a notice from the bank informing them that the check was fraudulent and you owe them money. Any transaction with the bank is FEDERAL and you will go to jail for it.
