My son and I went to eat at CJ Palace in November 2022. I attempted to pay with a tattered and torn $100 bill but CJ palace refused to accept it because they said the corner was torn. It was all of cash I had on my person. So then I asked to pay with a check and they refused to allow check either. Since we had already eaten there was nothing else I could do but go cash the bill somewhere else and bring the money to them. My son agreed to wait there at the restaurant while I went to exchange the $100 bill. That was not good enough for the workers at CJ palace. They demanded that my San And I leave our drivers licenses with them and they took our drivers licenses and my son still stayed there while I went to exchange the bill. When I got back with the money 20 min later I paid the cashier there but everyone else had left for the evening. The cashier informed me that she didn't know that someone had taken our IDs and that we would have to wait until the restaurant opened the next day to get our IDs back. The next day I called CJs Palace and they told me that they looked in the drawer and our IDs weren't there. They proceeded to act like they were unaware the IDs had been taken and had no knowledge of where they put them. I had to purchase a replacement license at the dmv and it took 3 weeks for me to get it. Then I found out from my friend, a former police officer, that it is illegal for them to request our IDs and possess them as form of Payment. Even that is not the reason for my complaint. When I presented payment my ID should have been returned to me but they lost it and that is my complaint
