I purchased my puppy from Carol S***** (Gabelle Kennels) Akron, NY last year on August 20th, 2023. I paid for an unlimited registration fee at $2000.00 plus an additional $300.00 she charged me to meet her husband ½ way from NH. I was up front and honest in the beginning and let her know I wanted to breed my female. A few short weeks later I noticed my puppy had an unusual, enlarged jaw so I started doing some research on it. I reached out to the breeder Carol S*****, on January 24th, 2024 via AKC Messenger letting her know about this as her jaw was getting noticeably bigger, on January 25th she responded and denied the fact that either parent of my puppy had the gene and she knew nothing about the disease. She also tried passing it off as an underbite. She said in the message that the mom Fiona was tested but in a text conversation on January 29th she said she never told me she had her dogs were tested, I still have all of these conversations. I than purchased a DNA testing kit known as Optimal Selection, cost $149.99 which I found through the AKC. After a few weeks on February 23rd, I received the test results and to no surprise my suspicions were right. Her results came back positive for Craniomandibular Osteopathy with two markers. I emailed the results to Carol and to this day she hasn't looked at it and I never received a response. She only gave me the run around and excuse after excuse. I went through Carol S***** because I found her on the AKC breeder registry and coming from the AKC I thought she would be a legit breeder but come to find out she is a backyard puppy mill dog breeder selling puppies filled with worms, diseases and congenital defects. I feel lied to and she did not honor her contract. She did not refund me and she didn’t once offer to take the puppy back. Now I have to spend even more money on pretty much a “special needs” dog with issues, this was not what I had planned for.

Response taken by phone:    The customer made the purchase in the name of ****** ******.  I did offer to take the puppy back for a refund but she wanted to keep her.  Once the customer submitted  proof that the puppy was spade and was not being used for breeding, she was refunded $800 March 24, by ***** .

I have attached the response I received from Carol and as stated before I have our full  conversation, I'd be happy to get and send a full transcript. She never once offered to take the puppy back. Had she offered to take my puppy back I don't know as though I would trust her and I'd be worried about her disposing the puppy because of the disease. I assume that is one reason why she never offered to take the puppy back. She just jumped to the conclusion that I didn't want her to take her back. More than anything I want to protect other customers from having the same experience I did, people shouldn't be allowed to go on breeding puppies with genetic defects and not disclosing that information. She knew I wanted to breed, she could have at least offered a healthy puppy.  I'm willing to bet now that she knows someone complained she will not warn other customers her dogs carry the genetic marker that causes CMO. I would just like the assurance of knowing that others don't have to go through what we did. I did the responsible thing by getting her spayed and NOT breeding her.
