Around October, Brown-Davis Lawncare & Snow Removal/Perfection Lawncare & Snow Removal called and told us that he saw in ******** that we're looking for snow removal for the Winter and he can drop by and give us a quote. Then he came around late afternoon driving a **** ***** truck with a leaf blower and a mower. Looked around and told us that he can leaf blow and mow for $55 cash and also for $530 he will side wash the house, fall clean and snow blow for the winter. He seemed to be enthusiastic and did a bit cleaning and mowing, took $55 cash and we gave him $530 check, he gave us the receipts and told us that he will drop by next day to give us the contract. Next day came and he was no show, we sent a text and he stated that he was busy and he will drop by. We felt a bit uncomfortable and checked him online and realized that he had a criminal history plus he made a reputation after his jail time scamming elderly folks around our area, we immediately sent text and told him to return our check ASAP but he refused. Contacted the bank and learned that he already cashed the check [within 24 hours!] and bank told us to report the police. Went to police station and was told to go to small claim court to settle the issue. Submitted complaint to the Attorney General's office and surprisingly, just before the Thanksgiving holiday Elderly local county APS came to our home and informed us that he is scamming a lot of elderly folks around our area and they need to do a welfare check and open a case! It seems like we're into a Kafkaesque state of affair! Yes, we're old but as always hard working educated folks with sound mind/body/spirit getting roped into a space that beyond our imagination because a known criminal roaming free, scamming us and getting away with it while we're getting monitored by the Adult Protective Services (APS) without reaching out to them for financial exploitation (adult maltreatment) but the known criminal/so-called business man is free! Confusing!
