I discovered that Times Union has been debiting a monthly free from my checking for months!! I never signed up for a subscription. I called last month to CANCEL. thought it was all cleared up and I wouldn't get another deduction. BUT NO!!! they took out money this month from my checking!! They are scamming me and won't stop. I was hoping to get a refund of some or maybe all of the money they took out but they never did that!! They never stopped my subscription. I'm so fed up and feel others should know how sneaky they are. Don't subscribe to Times Union!Review from Kathleen M

I had the times union app and subscription. I went to go cancelled the subscription but the app said I didn’t have a subscription so I never looked more into it. I originally had the 3 month subscription that was like .50 cents a month then after 3 months it changes into $20 This was July when I tried to cancelled. I kept looking it would tell me there was no subscription so I just assumed there was no subscriptions and wasn’t getting charged. I looked into my bank statement finally in October and realized that they have been charging me $20 a month for a subscription that the app told me I didn’t have. I will own up to no checking is my fault. But when I called their subscription membership call center they offered no resolution. I told them how the app told me was saying I had no subscription for months then charging me so for month I wasn’t using that app. This woman claimed to be the supervisor told me it was my fault so they would not offering any type of resolution. She told me since I never called earlier and checked my bank statements sooner that they will not offer up any type of resolution. And I reminded her that it was the app that told me that I had no subscription so I thought I had no reason to check into it. She then when back to directing the blame onto me again. When I asked her again that “so I have to pay 4 months of a subscription that I couldn’t since your app glitched because I didn’t check my bank statements or call sooner?” She denied saying she blamed me. She said “I never said that. That’s what your are saying” I even have reached out to their higher ups and have gotten nothing back about how I was treated. Not even an apologize and I reached out weeks ago The way I was treated was so unprofessional. This is not how you treat one of your customers This review is more about how I was treated than then getting my money back. They are probably a million dollar company and they really wouldn’t give me my $80 back.Review from michael m.

They call me several times a day and tell me I owe them back subscription. In an earlier call they tell me I'm paid through 1/16/23. I then get a bill on 1/3/23 telling me I owe $56.00. They cut my delivery that week. I have tried to call many times to their local number and it says "due to heavy call volume, we are unable to take your call" and then hangs up. I have tried many times to get to the bottom of this to no avail. Very poor service. I guess we know now why print newspapers are a dyeing breed.Albany Times Union Response

My above review stands as a estimate to the poor and archaic service the Times Union gives. On 2/6/23 th times union responded to my issue and said "Mr. ******, My apologies for the long hold times. I will contact you immediately to discuss your account.'. NEVER heard from anyone from them and it's now 2/24/23.Review from Marjory W

UNBELIEVABLE. Even when you cancel your subscription they keep billing you. And they have your credit card number so you have to call your bank and cancel your cc in order to get them to stop. They keep saying they don't have access to the payments to be able to credit them back...I asked to speak to a manager and he has even more rude that the customer service rep. Repeating over and over there is nothing he can do and there is no one higher than him I could speak to...Albany Times Union Response

The Times Union runs a complete scam in relation to subscriptions. My mother had her bill paid in full for the agreed upon subscribing time, and of course the bill has increased. After FOUR phone calls to cancel service, that they say they have no record of, I have had to get involved. They say she still owes money on the time of service that she paid, because they had increased prices, even though original billing had already been mailed out. When I called to sort the situation out on my mother's behalf, the customer service was horrible!! It's almost impossible to even speak to anyone that works in the Albany office. One customer service representative literally hung up on my mother in one of her attempts to cancel. This company is despicable!Review from Anthony L.

Absolutely awful service and zero customer service. They literally just hang up on you when they can’t help you. You cannot get anyone to help you cancel your subscription so they simply keep billing you. Unfortunately they have our credit card number and refuse to cancel it.Albany Times Union Response

I would like to report unscrupulous practices by Times Union. Over the years, I have had a subscription to this paper which is now hardly glanced at in my house. Every time I cancel the subscription, we get repeated phone calls to renew the service at discounted rates. Last time they got my wife to renew the service and told her that if she wanted to discontinue service after the promotional offer, all she had to do was to write cancel on the bill and send it back. I did that 10 days before the service was up for renewal. Paper is still getting delivered and I keep getting calls from them to renew the service. Twice I have told their representative that I had sent in cancellation, yet paper still showed up this morning. Yesterday they tried to tell me that I owe them money for the deliveries after my subscription had expired even though I had sent in my cancellation. In addition to the cost of paper, I feel that I am contributing to climate change by essentially receiving the paper and then putting it directly into my recycling bin.Albany Times Union Response

Yes, the phone number is the same as the one on my account. Not only I am still getting the calls, the paper is still being delivered after I cancelled it 5-6 weeks ago. Every time I get the call, I tell them that I have cancelled the paper and don’t want to renew my subscription and then the caller tells me that I owe some money. The money keeps going up with each call. Yesterday I got another bill by mail for the period Nov 5-Feb 4. A previous bill sent 2-3 weeks ago was for the period Nov 11- Jan 6. The first bill sent on Oct 18 had the renewal starting at Nov 11 as well. Why suddenly the start date changed and how many ways one has to tell Times Union to cancel their subscription?
