I hired him to repair some wood landscape borders and replace a few trees that were damaged in a lightening storm. He talked me into replacing a large bed entirely, we then met at Cook & Gardener in Plattsburg, Ny, the garden center to choose the plants. He asked for a 50% deposit before he began the work. I gave him a check. He measured and wrote an estimate and came to install the plants. He had ripped out several existing edging boards and left them in a pile in my garden. Before he left he asked for the balance of the bill, calculating an additional $250 to take down a dead pine tree and another 115 for cedar mulch which I assumed he had already included in the original bill. I mistakenly gave him another check for the entire balance. (2,500$) He said he would wait 3 weeks before depositing it till after the job was complete. He went to deposit both of my checks the very next day. The cedar trees he planted were so small and wimpy looking for what he charged (he was supposed to bring 6 ft trees). He has yet to install the wood borders (which was WHY I called him to begin with). and has not shown up as promised nor responded at all to my messages to call and let me know when he would, Basically took my money and ran, a THIEF with no integrity. I am very angry.
