I initially hired bill, the owner or thobae electric, for a pool job. he came out in April looked at the job and gave me an estimate for 3,000. when the pool was installed in July I changed my mind about the pool equipment location and **** said to me that It will be a "little extra" because its further away from the house. he worked for approximately 30 hrs according to him and by the time he was done he said my estimate is now 6,000. yea exactly double the original estimate. he was not transparent and he said he wishes I got tother estimates to see how much it usually costs. so I did get other estimates and showed 3 different electricians what **** as done and they all told me its 3-4k in total material and labor. when I confronted **** about this and asked for a partial refund he said "so I made money on one job" he also proceeded to say that electricians get paid $85-125 dollars an hr and every time he came out to my house it was a $250 call which he also did not tell me about. I will be taking this matter to court but I wanted to make other customers aware of this guy. I actually hired him for a hot tub install and he was reasonable but I think he got greedy and took advantage of his clients. The breaker on the heater that **** installed is tripping and so is the outlet **** said that’s not his problem as he knows what he is doing and the problem is with the heater that is brand new. I would like a partial refund of 2000 and that will be more than fair enough for what **** did.Business response

The letter attached leaves out many details. 1. Original estimate was $3250.00 2. He changed his mind about the location of the pool equipment from being attached to his house to a location approximately 90' from the house which entailed me renting a trencher, several hours just to dig the trench, additional; material to mount the equipment on plywood backing on two 4 x 4 posts set in ground. I also had to dig a trench for low voltage lighting being placed next to the pool electrical equipment of approx. 30'which was not included in the original estimate. Additionally I had to purchase conduit, fittings, wire and caution tape and install same. This also involved extensive labor. There was a problem with the 50 amp breaker tripping which I tested and found the running amps was within specs. I believe there was an issue with the heater but I swapped out the breaker anyway. 3. I also made three trips to the site (about 1 hr round trip each) at his request but was unable to do all the additional work on two occasions do to conflicts with pool contractor. 4, I also repaired a piece of siding on the back of his house and I also checked a nonfunctioning outside outlet neither of which I speciffically charged for. 5. The total **** did not double from $3000.00 to $6000.00 but went from $3250.00 to $5800.00.Customer response

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. **** told me when I changed my mind it was going to be a “little extra” not almost double also he never told me he was charging me for coming out every time. I have asked **** for an itemized **** or a break down of material and labor and he said he “doesn’t do that” that’s because he’s aware he overcharged me. Also he said “so what I made money on a job” I have hired **** for 2 different jobs before he was reasonable but I think he got greedy and starting taking advantage of me. His response regarding the siding and checking out the outlet again he never mentioned charging me but the side outlet was working until he installed another outside outlet and it tripped the breaker then that outlet stopped working. **** said “I don’t know what to tell ya” when I told him that outlet stopped working and that it wasn’t his problem yet the outlet was working before he installed the other outside outlet. He was very unprofessional with not being transparent and the feeling of being taking advantage of hurts as a home owner. He also said he would provider the lights that he installed then told me that I have to buy them and I paid the inspection fee that was supposed to be paid by him on the original estimate if 200 dollars that’s what I paid him 5800 and not 6000 as I paid thr fee brining his total to 6000 as he was supposed to pay it. I have attached the two estimates he gave me and the difference of 3800 dollars. The BBB could be the judge of the changes and see how **** got greedy with this job and shouldn’t be trusted. Regards, ****** *** ****
