Spoke to ******* at Stark Appliance on August 8, 2022 regarding a dryer that needed repair *************). He came that day and said he had to order a part that was $125 and the total repair would be $327 cash only and I had to pay all except $100 which was due on completion. The dryer needed a yellow idler pulley kit. He came back on August 11th and completed the repair and the dryer sounded good. He said it might need some clips and when he was in the neighborhood he would stop back and install them. Final $100 was paid. Contacted him on Sept 8 and informed him that the dryer was making the original noise and repair didn't last. He said he would come back that week with the clips. Never heard from him. Called him 10/8 and he was quite nasty so I asked for a refund. He said he would give me a partial refund of $85 which was unacceptable. The part alone was $125 which didn't work! He just became nastier on the phone and at that point I didn't want him in my house or even talk to him. I texted him my information for a refund and of course have not heard a word. He deals in cash only and no paperwork which should have been a red flag but i just wanted my dryer fixed.

**** from Stark Appliance came to fix my washing machine in my laundry room. While the work was fine that he did on the washing machine, he unplugged a freezer full of food unbeknownst to me. After he was finished he pushed the washing machine back into the regular position which left a bunch of water on the floor. I told him I would take care of the water and clean up the dirty floor. He never once told me my freezer was unplugged. Days later we went to take something out realizing everything was spoiled and warm. When we realized he had unplugged our freezer to do the work, we texted him. He immediately got defensive stating I "said I would clean up." I fired back immediately and said you put the washer back where it belonged with an unplugged appliance that you never even told me that you unplugged and that the water was clearly what needed to be cleaned up. He then said he would think about how he could handle this and get back to us. We through out 100's of dollars in spoiled food, including my daughters custom birthday cake. Fast forward to another 5 days later and now he wants pictures. We would have had all the pictures he wanted the day we confronted him but now he will do nothing to rectify the situation and all the food he ruined. DO NOT DO BUSINESS with someone who is dishonest and takes no accountability for their actions. Cleaning water off the floor does not mean I have psychic powers to know to plug something back in that I had no knowledge was unplugged. He plugged my washing machine back in so why not the freezer? It was a careless mistake and he should pay for the mistake, not say it is the customer that should have assumed that things were unplugged. Had I ever known my freezer full of food was unplugged, it would have been the first thing I would have had him take care of when the work was done. He lied and said he had to check with management and low and behold...he is the owner of this company! BEWARE!!!!!!! NOT GOOD AND NOT HONEST :(

We again apologize for the inconvenience. Stark Appliance Repair is a reputable company on long island that stands by their work and customer service. As we know not every customer is always satisfied and we do our best to accommodate and meet the needs of our customers. Our technicians are highly trained and will never leave a job unfinished or not  take accountability for any errors and/or issues. We have provided refunds in the past when applicable. However, in this case it was difficult to determine the technician being at fault. The appliance being worked on at the residence was the washing machine, which was unplugged, worked on, put back, plugged back in and fixed. With some appliance repairs there can be water leaking and our technicians will never leave the job without cleaning the mess. In this case, the lady present in the household was aware of the mess and that the breaker was unplugged. The tech was advised to leave it be and that she will clean up. While this gesture was kind, the tech was unaware that the breaker unplugged was connected to a nearby fridge. The appliance worked on was the washing machine, not the refrigerator and therefore was unaware of its wiring. Refrigerators can remain cold for up to 72 hours, especially if not opened. While we understand that the technician is being blamed for the fridge being unplugged, there is some accountability in not checking on your own fridge for days. In this case we cannot determine who is truly at fault, and how much food was possibly lost in the process. We find it hard to comprehend that so much food was stored in a fridge, during Thanksgiving week, and left unattended for. We are truly sorry that a birthday cake was lost, but also asked for pictures of the cake and remaining food items to determine the costs lost. We were denied pictures and we also denied the request of a 300$ refund and offered 100$ credit. We tried our best to communicate with this customer and resolve it in a professional manner. We apologize that we could not come to a mutual agreement and resolution through phone communication and are now here, but we are a very reputable and honest company.

      Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# ********, and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

For the 10th time or more, this was a storage freezer, not a refrigerator and therefore stored a lot of money in food. Cleaning up the floor with water is very different than plugging back in the items you unplugged to do your job. Its irresponsible and terrible for not refunding what was damaged in the process. The washing machine was put back to its original position with the freezer plug unplugged behind it. It was CLEARLY an oversight on your part and you refuse to take responsibility. My daughters cake was bought and frozen for her upcoming birthday. Had you asked for pictures the day we complained to you, you would have had many pictures of the bags of groceries we through out. You lied and said you needed to contact your manager to find out yesterday that you are in fact the owner!!!!!!!!! I am a doctor and if someone was not happy with my service, I make it right and make sure I resolve a problem if I was at fault. You have done the opposite of that. You ruined my daughters custom cake, I through out a ton of frozen food that spoiled and you are a nasty human who references Thanksgiving week because I told you multiple times this is a FREEZER!!!!!!!!!!! It is ruined and gone and you are terrible for not making it right. I will be taking this farther if it is not rectified because I could have bought a new washer for what you ended up costing me. SHAME ON YOU as a business owner and as a human being.
