On March 3rd, 2021, ********* from State Chimney and Masonry provided a quote for work including relining my chimney with a stainless steel insert for both the oil furnace line and the wood-burning fireplace line and adding a connector for a wood-pellet stove insert. The total amount quoted was $6,752 and I paid a deposit of $1,500. On 3/16/21 ***** came and installed the liner on the oil furnace line. We requested to change the stove insert connection to a connection for a regular wood burning stove insert which changed the estimated total cost of the job to $8,403. At that time, we paid $7,376.28 as that is the amount we were told would cover the work as quoted plus the sales tax minus our deposit. In total, we paid $8,876.28 which was the after tax total (not including the cost of the wood stove insert, which we purchased from another vendor). After the second visit and payment, no one from State *********************************************** returned to my home to line the wood-burning chimney line or install the connector for our wood stove. I called them several times and made appointments with them several times, no one called or showed up to any of the appointments and eventually stopped answering my phone calls. Then I gave up trying. At the time this was occurring, I was moving my mother with stage 4 cancer into my home to care for her for the remainder of her life (she passed away about 13 months later). At that same time, I was also diagnosed with cancer and was enduring biopsies and surgery which has recently caused other complications. This is why I did not file this complaint within the one year - I was caring for my terminally ill mother, managing my own cancer treatment and taking care of rental properties that I own for the use of other family members. I am requesting a refund for the incomplete portion of the work and the resulting overpayment or the completion of the job by this company.
