Manager misrepresented the cost a service call and no written estimate was provided. My understanding was it would cost $99 to diagnose a wine cooler for service call. The merchant charged me $159.99. He also charged me $19 for a credit card service fee. He insisted I pay him by credit card and asked me for the pin number. This was unethical. The total **** came to $178.99 with this fee. He did not allow me to mail him a check. His service man did nothing and didn't seem to know what to do. He opened the unit but found nothing. The complaint was that the unit wasn't cooling sufficiently, but the technician said he could not add refrigerant and there was nothing to be done so left. The manager claims that the technician provided advice but this is not true. The technician had trouble expressing himself in English. The manager claimed that the code 'LOC' on the panel, which I googl'd and found it was a child lock, was set too low and could damage the compressor. But the unit was functioning at around 57 degrees which is far from too low. The manager was not honest with me and I now have to close my credit card because the manager insisted I give him my pin, and all information to use feloniously. I am disputing his charge with my credit card company and will only agree to the $99 service call he quoted me, since he did not provide any written quote and the technician did absolutely nothing to rectify the problem. He seemed clueless about what to do.Customer response

rectify the problem. He seemed clueless about what to do.Amended on 7/14/2022: The merchant was informed of the manufacturer, model and serial number of the wine cooler and
refrigerant type when I contacted him. Despite this information, and having the capability to look up the information and determine
that the unit has a self-contained refrigerant and could not be injected with more refrigerant, he nonetheless allowed the technician
to come and place the service call. Then when the technician said there was nothing he could do, the manager allowed that yes, that
was the case. However, this was unethical since as an expert in the field, he would be expected to know this information and inform me
of that fact from the start.Desired Settlement:
I will pay the partial invoice amount of $99.00 and dispute the rest with my credit card
company.
Sincerely,
