A tree limb fell on my home. I hired Felgemacher Masonry to repair the damage on my chimney. They came out accessed and later scheduled the repair. They completed the work and the work they did, at best, was sub-standard. I can see cracks in the bricks that should have been repaired and was not. They tarred a black object unto the chimney to keep it in place. Now, my roofer cannot flash to roof. Honestly, I could have done better than this company and they are supposed to be professionals? Please find a photo attached.Business response

We were called by the customer after a tree fell and hit her chimney (see before photo). After assessing the chimney, our estimator determined that we needed to replace the concrete crown, grind out and replace the mortar on the top 5 courses of brick and install a new flue cap. We completed all the work that was on the work order. The terms of what we were going to complete were clearly stated on our work order that the customer agreed to. If there were other areas she wanted us to address, she should have discussed that with the estimator when we originally came out. We completed everything we discussed with her and did a little extra work to help her out at no additional cost. There was existing tar that was already on the roof where the chimney and the roof meets, but it was deteriorated and cracked. We knew that the customer was going to be getting the roof replaced. Our technician felt that water could get in where the tar was cracked, so he went above and beyond what was on the work order and added a new layer of tar to prevent leaking until the roofer could come and replace the roof. This is a very standard practice, as there was already tar there when we arrived. We just reinforced it. We told the customer we would be happy to speak with the roofer before they started the work, as the tar will not prevent them from being able to replace the work. The customer refused to let us speak with the roofer. We completed everything we discussed with her and did a little extra work to help her out at no additional cost.Customer response

Better Business Bureau: I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear T [There are visible cracks in the chimney from where the tree hit the chimney. That’s why that metal piece, that was NOT there prior to the tree falling, was needed to stabilize the chimney. I trusted this company to repair my chimney and they did not. The masonry came out to give a free quote on chimney. Asked for a $200 deposit but no contact was signed and was never told it was non refundable and no date was set to fix chimney. Doug the contractor never gave a contract to sign. After an emergency flooding of living room we had to contact someone sooner to fix and now The masonry will not return the $200 though in their email it clearly states that the $200 is collected at time of contract signing and also does not say non refundable. Upon calling the very rude secretary kept saying it’s non refundable tho no contract was signed and will not let anyone speak to the manager.Customer response
