On 10/23, I reached out to Tyler of Everything Under The Sun to renovate the floors to my basement. Initially, we agreed upon him putting on stair caps for $800. Work would begin Mon, Nov 1. It would be a one day job, completed same day. On Nov 1, Tyler arrived and looked at the stairs. He found the stairs were cherry floors so staircaps wouldn't be needed. All that would be needed was stain and polyethylene. He and I met at **** ***** to buy the materials. He went to the ****** ********** to rent the stain machine.I paid for rental and materials. When we returned to the house, I gave Tyler $400, as he required the 1st part of the payment. I asked for a receipt which he gave me. Tyler did the work to the stairs. He did not put up insulation and sand dust was covered throughout the downstairs. The staircase was wet so I was unable to fully spotcheck his work. However, he guaranteed he would return within the next week (before Thurs 11/11) because he said stain sets differently on wood.I asked him to write the guarantee out on the receipt, which he did and I paid him the remaining $400 balance. Tyler left our house with sanddust snd materials everywhere. The next day, my husband returned the stain equipment back to the Home ***** rental and the associate told us that Tyler damaged the machine and cut the cord. My husband called Tyler while at *** **** *****. Tyler argued with the associate, calling him a liar. My husband ended up having to pay for the damaged machine. Tyler, the associate and my husband had words because Tyler left our house dirty, we had to pay for the damaged machine and our staircase wasn't completed. Soon after, my husband called Tyler to smooth things over. Days go by and no call from Tyler on when he would be returning to complete the work. He blocked my number and messages. He was a no-show. I called him from another phone and he told me he was not returning to complete the work.Tyler walked away from a job with my full $800. I want $400 refund

      Business response

      12/02/2021

BBB spoke to Tyler at business and the following was relayed:

I did the stairs, sanded from 3 coats of paint to bare wood. I painted the sides and front white and used a gray stain. I needed to return to light sand the stain and put 2-3 more coats. Her husband called me from **** ***** when he was returning the belt sander stating it was damaged. The damage was not done by me, I asked him what color duct tape was on it and if it was sticky. He said black and no. I do not carry or use black duct tape and new tape would have been sticky. The husband physically threatened me. He did call back to apologize but I told him at that time I no longer feel safe coming back to their house. The only thing left to do is to lightly sand the stained areas and apply 2-3 more coats. The hardest part of the job was done and the customer is the one who voided the contract, I will not be returning any money.

      Customer response

      12/02/2021

Better Business Bureau: I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below. Tyler M***** confirmed in his statement he did not complete the project. He was paid in full for something he did not finish. Furthermore, what does he mean "the contract was voided?" It was voided because he says so? My husband did not physically threaten Tyler Miller. He asked him when would he be returning to the house to complete the project so he could be there to ensure the project was completed correctly. Additionally, if that was how Tyler felt, why won't he provide a refund for the incomplete job? Why would he block all communications with me via phone and ******** *********? He did not even communicate to me that he was not returning. He was a no-show and walked away with my money. Additionally, we received in writing a Guarantee from Tyler M***** that he would be returning. I have photos attached. We received estimates for another contractor. The wood is damaged and the landing was not put it properly. There is quite a bit more work needing to be done to complete this project. Tyler M***** walked away from this project when he was paid in full. He stated he did not complete the project. We have a written Guarantee that he would return. If he did not return, then he should have refunded our money. Regards, *** ******
