Casola Well Drillers offers and Extended Warranty Plan on installation of *****, pumps and water systems. The Plan agrees to supply parts and labor for all repairs for an Annual Fee.Firstly, the Plan has a hidden disclaimer in the fine print stating that the Warranty is subject to the availability of parts. I did manage to get beyond that issue with the company. The real problem came up when I asked them to replace my 23+ year old pump. The normal life of a pump is 15 years and, since I am away for long periods of time in the winter, failure of the pump would cause my hot water heating system to shut down and the water pipes in my home to freeze. They were totally unresponsive to my request. Finally, they stated that, in order for their equipment to access my well, I would have to remove a 10ft section of fence, remove a 40 year old Japanese ilex and trim back several trees. This was clearly a ploy to have me not be willing to do this expensive work and, thus, relieve them of their obligation to replace the pump under the Warranty for no charge. I offered to meet with their field techs to discuss alternatives and work out a solution. Casola never showed up.I contacted one of Casola Well Drillers competitors. They were very responsive and quoted me a $2450 price to replace the pump. This cost was much less than the cost of removal and replacement of the fence, removal and replacement of the ilex and tree trimming. The new company sent 2 mechanics in a van, pulled my pump by hand and replaced it. No work was required by me for them to access my well and work was completed in less than 2 hours - no fuss, no mess. I paid thousands of dollars over the 23+ years for the so called Extended Warranty Plan. Admittedly the well system was reliable. However, I ask the question 'Why can a company get away with offering a Warranty that has a disclaimer for the supply of parts and a refusal to replace components that are beyond their useful life?"
