I adopted an adorable poodle mix with a lot of energy. I thought Agility would be perfect for him because he takes direction very well. I called MARTIAL ARFS and was told to bring him in for a consultation and he would meet the owner. HIS NAME IS ***********I was charged $30 for the consultation. I was told he would be great. ***** is the one that also suggests what package to take. I went with 8 classes, each 1/2 hour costing $65 each 1/2 hour. My 1st class for my dog only lasted 15 minutes. I didnt say anything I figured Id mention it to the owner , ***** who wasnt there at the time. The girl who gave him the 15 minutes did less than the evaluation so it was a repeat of the same.I mentioned he has a cute walk, that when he walks he skips. She saw it and said that can be what they call luxation patella. Its when the joint falls out of its socket like a dislocation. As soon as I heard that I was so concerned, I took my dog to the veterinarian he confirmed it, and I mentioned to him about the agility, he said, do not have your dog jump. Do not have them do agility, a lot of dogs need surgery I called and I told her my veterinarian does not want him doing that because it can worsen his body. Can I please have a refund for the unused session. She said no I said let me speak with the owner she said he doesnt get on the phone and he will not speak with me. I said well why dont you just tell him my situation she said no its not gonna change. Also which I shouldve known better but so enthusiastic to have my dog enjoy himself I did notice the place was so filthy with equipment that was so old and I actually have photographs of it. Im just warning everyone do not go there and if you do check it out and look how dirty the place is an old and the equipment doesnt even work properly.

The Martial ARFS Dog Training and Fitness Centers Response

We are saddened you feel the way you do about your experience at The Martial ARFS ****************. As you state we advised you to go to your vet as the skip walk you dog had was possibly something serious. This allowed your vet to diagnose the dog with the condition they did. We recognize how upsetting or even terrifying it can be to find out your dog has any medical condition and we are glad we sent you to your vet in order to get a diagnosis. Our goal is to provide our clients with more than just dog training. We hope to educate and guide them in all aspects of pet ownership. We were able to recognize the condition because weve worked with countless dogs with this same condition. Many, through specific exercises and activities, weve been able to prevent the condition from manifesting more seriously as well as delaying or avoiding the need for surgery.Had we not have recommended you to go to the vet you would have continued to believe there was nothing wrong with your dog. We saved your dog from continued and/or increased suffering and you from potentially spending thousands of dollars in costly surgery. Something weve seen many clients go through prior to them coming to us.We agree that dogs with this condition should not be doing agility which is why we recommend you go to the vet in the first place. However these dogs still need help. Simply trying to avoid certain movements like jumping is hard to do and usually not enough. Having recognized the condition as well as having experience dealing with the condition we can continue to help your dog with exercises and activities that can potentially avoid surgery, and/or improve or maintain your dogs quality of life, using the sessions you've already paid for. Most owners jump at the opportunity to improve any potentially harmful condition with their dog, especially when there is no addition cost to do so. They are relieved to know that we offer the flexibility to work with their dog no matter what is going on, whether its behavioral or physical. We understand you thought you would have more interaction with the owner, *****. Like many business owners he is not involved in the day to day operations of The Martial ARFS ****************. Though he may on occasion fill in during staffing issues, as is the case here, the location provides a facility manager, training program coordinator, and additional trainers who are wonderful at their jobs and run the day to day operations on their own. All the responsibilities you assigned to ***** actually rest with the day to day staff, not him. Though he was there for your initial appointment, that is usually not the case. As such, you were informed that he would not be working with you or your dog and you were introduced to the trainer when booking your appointments. We also recognize you did not get the full 30 minute for her first session . However, this was because you did not arrive on time for your session and there was another appointment scheduled immediately after. We are an appointment based business, and unfortunately the trainer could only work with you for the reminder of the time left. We strive to communicate with our clients and avoid misunderstandings as best we can and take serious any time there's an issue. And again, we recognize how upsetting it can be to find out your dog has any medical condition. With that diagnosis your dog received from your vet however, he still needs help. We are here to help as weve helped so many other client's dogs in the past with this condition and will continue to try to do the same for you.
