I required electrical work on my Electric Meter box and requested an estimate from Zold Electric. They provided an estimate via email and requested an $800 Deposit to begin the work today 12/30. I sent them the $800 Deposit, and when they arrived at my house they looked at everything and informed me they could not begin work. Furthermore, they said that the way they wrote the job in the contract was not sufficient and would not solve the problem adequately or safely, over time. They then sent me a second quote for an additional $1280 to properly (their words) complete the job. I informed the owner that I was unhappy with this, and wanted to get other estimates from other Electricians. The owner went ahead and applied for permits and scheduled NYSEG shutting off my power without my authority or permission. When I called about this he asked me, "What do you think happens when you make a deposit?" I replied that the old contract became null and void when they informed me that they could not properly fix the issue within the parameters of the old contract. He then implied that I am lying and abruptly disconnected the call. I called the office back, and spoke to the office manager who informed me that they do not usually refund deposits, subsequent to my request for a refund. I informed her that when they break a contract they are required to receive new authorization and I am legally entitled to a refund for the contract that was not properly executed. She said she would call me back. I have not received a call back, and the company no longer returns my phone calls. Obviously after this experience of dishonesty and poor customer service I have no desire to authorize any work, and would like a refund for the contract that Zold violated, especially since they did not actually begin the work. I have attached a copy of their contract which bears my digital signature. I would like to note that this contract does not contain any statement that deposits are non-refundable.Business response

I apologize for the lack of communication over the holiday weekend. We were closed from 12/31-12/3. We have spoken over the phone concerning a refund of your deposit. We would gladly refund you a partial refund due to the permit fees/ labor time / G&A overhead costs that we have incurred however our system does not do partial refunds. We will kindly refund you your deposit of $800. It will take **** days until you have received funds back into your account. We have been in contact with ****** County Consumer affairs about your permit and it has been canceled. We have also reached out to NYSEG to cancel your disconnect reconnect application/appointment. We apologize for confusion and miscommunication around the holidays.
