I’d first like to say how disappointed I was in my dogs Skippy stay. While Skippy was in care at Sunny Creek Kennels he ended up with a nasty wound. I was out of town and the way it was explained to me was Skippy was scratching to get out of his kennel and tore a paw pad. I was told that aid was rendered, and that Candy didn’t want to wrap it because she as afraid he would chew the co-flex. I understand that. She said that she was spraying it with betadine and used quick stop to stop the bleeding. With Candy saying that, I didn’t question her care, nor did I think the wound required vet attention, because of what I was being told. I was wrong. When I picked my dog up a day earlier than planned, I was horrified by the site that I uncovered. First, I walked back to see Skippy. Candy was doing something and didn’t come with me. Skippy had no soft bed in his crate at all, he was filthy and the whole place smelled like wet dog. Also there was blood all over Skippy’s kennel. When I got Skippy out to the lobby area, there was a trail of blood spots behind him. She told me what she was doing as treatment. I didn’t get to really look at the wound because she sprayed it with betadine, put more quick stop powder on it and wrapped it in co flex. When I got home with Skippy the first thing, I did was unwrap the wound and washed it out. It was caked in dirt. His white fur was black, so he was immediately brought into the bathtub. His wound was properly washed, and it his paw was wrapped in co-flex. When I looked at the quick stop powder, she was putting on his wound, the powder was in clumps and was hardened. The powder expired in 2019. I brought Skippy to a wellness clinic for a vet to check to make sure he was fine. I am from out of state, so his vet recommended that I take him for someone to look at his wound because his paw pad was cut from one side to the other. In a “U” shape. The wellness vet was horrified that quick stop powder was being put into large open wound. The vet also said that Skippy needed stitches. I called the vet that my parents have used for 15+ years and they were able to get Skippy in. That vet had to put 3 staples into Skippys paw to hold his paw pad together while it healed. For the next two weeks Skippy has had to have his leg wrapped in co-flex (which he was been fine with) and a special ointment put into the wound. I called Candy about what the vet said, and she wanted to disagree with what two vets said. That she didn’t think the wound was that bad. I had planned for Skippy to be boarded for two more weeks while I traveled, but I cancelled because of the lack of care Skippy received. Not once was I offered assistance in his vet bill nor a discount on his boarding. If you want your dog to spend hours in a cage, lights shut off at 5:30 PM, and no vet care provided in emergencies, then this is the place to go.
