my two children and i recently stayed in a motel in cortland/cortlandville called “cortland motel” upon checking in, nothing seemed amiss.. but later the next day, i noticed something moving near my sons pillow. i had him get out of the bed, and i thoroughly inspected the bed and discovered that it had what looked like small red insects all over. i immediately had my daughter get out of the other bed, same issue. there was also a centipede under one pillow. i requested my money back, and offered to show them what i saw, to which one owner because irate and screamed in my face. mind you, my children were present for this behavior. it was so awful, that i called 911 because i was concerned for my own safety. they refused to return my money. several days later they contacted ***** whom did an inspection and found no evidence of bed bugs… but i have photographic evident of there being insects in the bed. not only did i pay for a service that ended up being unsatisfactory, i was humiliated, and my young son is now afraid to stay anywhere for fear of there being the same bugs in the next bed. this isn’t fair to my family, this isn’t good business practice. the sheriff urged that i contact this bureau for further assistance. thank you, ******* ********Business response

To Whom It May Concern, We received your letter regarding the complaint about our business from Ms. ******* ********, ID#********, Please find our response below. This room (room #19) was reserved for Mr. **** ******** on Nov. 14, 2021 who claimed it was just for two people for one night. The first night they seemed to have no problems with the room and they renewed for a second night. They claimed that the second day they found bed bugs but didn't say anything to the motel staff and spent the night. It was only at check out that they said they had bugs and demanded a refund. As soon as they made their claim that there were bed bugs, the two owners went to inspect the room. Upon inspection we discovered lint/fuzz from a garment like a sweater and little pieces of food. We received their pictures and saw nothing but what we described, not the he multiple red bugs they claimed. We told them that we were going to have pest control come do an inspection. When we refused her refund, she jumped up and became irate and then claimed that she feil on our property earlier and broke her leg and wanted money for that, The manager of ***** who has 20+ years' experience inspected the room also found no evidence of any kind of bugs. The report was amailed to the customer, I have attached the report with this letter for your review. They stayed 14 and 15 and cheeked out on 16. ***** came on the 17th Everything was done quickly. We are currently renting the room and have had no complaints at all. There was no proof of bugs or of her falling down and breaking her leg. Her purpose was just to get free room/money. We are a small business that has been serving the community for many years because we value all of our customers very much. They made a complaint which we address and we found no evidence of their claim. The manager of ***** who inspected and also found no evidence. They stayed for two nights, if there was an infestation as they descried there would not have been two nights spent in the room and a compliant when they checked out. We welcome the various departments to come here and perform their inspections.
