Anytime fitness has been ignoring my request to cancel my gym membership for 2 months. I signed up in ****** ******** near my home. Without communicating anything to me, they moved my membership to an anytime fitness in ********. The ** gym doesn't even know when my membership was transferred to them. here is my communication with the ********, ** Location: "I have been trying to cancel to my membership with my home club in ******, ** since September. I sent a "contact us" communication through their website and went in during staffed hours in September, I went in during staffed hours in October, I went in during staffed hours and left a voicemail in November. No one was available during staffed hours each time I went in. My voicemail and contact us communication were not responded to. I finally had to refute the charges with my credit card company, which is why your system is showing a past due balance. Please cancel my membership effective as of September when I first tried to contact the club that I signed my membership contract with. I can speak to someone with the corporate office if there are any issues. "They are saying I need to pay $100 to cancel my membership after my cancelation requests were ignored for 2 months. their most recent communication said if i don't pay this amount, i will be sent to collections. They did not give me the contact information with anyone in their corporate office. They have called me and emailed me several times trying to collect this balance, but only after I refuted the charge with my credit card company after trying to cancel for months.Customer response

At this time, I have been contacted directly by Anytime Fitness regarding complaint ID ********, however my complaint has NOT been resolved because:
They say its their policy to transfer peoples contracts without their knowledge so that they have no way to cancel the membership in writing.

On may 5th 2022 we signed on (my wife and i) for a gym membership at this club being promised it was a 1 year contract with no auto renewal. We signed a computer screen after being told verbatum that we were promised no auto renewal. There were no documents presented to read at the time. 1 year later I come to find that the contract auto renewed. I call them to cancel and said i explicitly didnt want auto renewal. They still intend to charge me money and continue to charge me money until i come into the club to cancel, this is a violation of *** Senate Bill ******. They have done nothing to alleviate our greivances except try to charge us more money. They never informed the contract was expiring and would auto renew, they did not inform me the contract became renewed either. They did everything unscroupulpusly behind my back and will continue to do so.Business response

Resending your full options below and signed and delivered membership agreement, with the option to Auto Renew for the same rate and term provided:

The signed Automatic Renewal program (attached, re-sending your signed + email delivered agreements from join date with this information) has been removed for your accounts moving forward and the end date for your current 12 Month Plan terms will be 05/04/2024, before any changes. Should you both want to consider other options to stop or pause the memberships sooner than that* (A. Reduced buyout cancellation fee - $250.00 cash each, B. Transfer of Memberships - Free of charge, or you can take a C. Temporary Pause/ Freeze for Free - Up through 2 months each), please let us know, we will send you details. Otherwise, we look forward to seeing you in the club (let us know how we can help you) through then and hope to keep you active as possible here! Thank you. ************;- your account currently shows Chargebacks / Past Due amount at $129.98. Some of these options will require you bring your accounts up to date + update billing before processing.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# ********, and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:[Your Answer Here]
Having to do all that is a violation of state law
Senate Bill ******
Which requires businesses to make it easier to quit these contracts without extra burdens of showing up directly at the club and submitting in writing requests to cancel membership. I have made it known by multiple avenues of communication that we do not want these services.
