I purchased a vehicle from KLS Auto on 2/14/23. On 2/16/23 I noticed a burning smell coming from the vehicle. On 2/18 it was still present so I contacted KLS Auto they stated that it could possibly be from the vehicle sitting for a while-it was not looked at and I was sent on my way. On March 4th the check engine light was on and was showing a code for a speed sensor. They stated “it was nothing to worry about” I had it replaced myself. On 3/23/23 the check engine light came back on and was brought to ****** Latham. They stated that the catalytic converter was bad and needed to be replaced. KLS was notified and they said they would take it to their shop Friday 3/24/23 for confirmation. They had the vehicle from 9:15am til about 6pm that day. Through out the day I was asking for updates and at one point they stated he believed they were fixing the issue. He then called me and told me they did not fix it and it was confirmed that the converter was bad. I asked if they could take care of the repair since it had only been 30days since I purchased the car. They told me that they would pay half and that I needed to bring it back to ****** for repair. I asked for copies of the diag from Friday. They stated he did not have copies because they didn’t give him any. I called ****** tire- where they took it/ there is no record of it being there on 3/24/23. I called and informed them of this and he still states that it was there, he has since booked my number from contacting him-which is his personal cell -I was informed of this today-that I was not aware of and would not have contacted him outside of regular business hours if I had known. KLS has withdrawn the offer of paying half. They will not cover the full cost of the repair or pay half.Business response

Hello this is Kevin the owner of the dealership, Sorry to hear again of the issues with this vehicle. I want to start by saying all vehicles we sell are put through inspection before being offered for sale for both safety and non-safety issues. Anything that is found that is needs to be or should be repaired, is. We have receipts for each vehicle including this one showing all emissions tests have been completed and OBD monitors have been tested and passed. There is no 30 day guarantee implied or offered on any vehicles over 100,000 at time of sale and we give a copy NYS warranty laws wit each vehicle sold. It's unfortunate when something like this (the check engine light for Catalytic converter code) comes on out of anyone's control or fault. The vehicle is driving well and safe as is expected. It should be noted that even with a mandated warranty in NY with a vehicle sold with under 100,000 miles , the emissions are not covered under that warranty and is stated on that form. With all of that said and being factual. I have in my own experience , seen this code triggered with low quality and octane fuel used in the vehicle. It happens on my own vehicle driven everyday. Lastly , we did offer to help with the repair as a courtesy and the offer was declined by Ms. ********.
