In October 2021, I contracted J & J Painting to paint the exterior of my home for $20,000. Initially I was very happy with their work. On 11/17, 2021 it was mutually agreed that I would pay the entire bill except for $500, and that the crew would come back in the spring for touch up work and to finish the decking. On 12/17/21, I informed the owner of the company that there was already paint peeling and that this would need to be rectified when they came back in the spring. I reached out to the owner on 5/23/22 to make sure finishing my house was still a top priority. I also sent him a picture of the peeling paint. The owner "Jeff Eckstrom" replied right away that the peeling paint was "terrible" and that he would be in touch. I haven't heard back once from him since. I have reached out several times via text and email. In an email to him I outlined the issues with the job his crew performed. #1 peeling paint that worsens every day #2 The unfinished touch up work #3 The fact that his crew used paint instead of colored stain on the portions of the porch and decking that are constructed of pressure treated wood. This is also peeling off. #4 The porch decking hasn't been completed.

      Business response

      10/12/2022

BBB spoke to Jeffrey at business and the following was relayed:

I have emailed the customer that we will be back there to address and resolve the peeling and touchups by the end of October, before the weather changes.

      Better Business Bureau:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID 17805273, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
      Regards,
      ***** *******
I have zero faith that the owner of J and J painting will live up to his resolution offer. Originally, the agreement in place was for finishing the job in spring 2022, then it become summer of 2022. Then the owner completely ignored my emails and texts until I filed this complaint. At which time, he emailed me at the beginning of September assuring me they would finish by the end of that month. He has once again moved the finish date to the end of this month. It is already the 13th of October and the season has already begun to change. Rain, cold temperatures, etc. Furthermore, in his offer I feel he is completely and intentionally minimizing what needs to be done to my house. In his resolution offer he states simply that "touch up work" and "peeling paint issues" are required. This is completely inaccurate. As I outlined in my complaint (and several emails to him) Paint is peeling, the decking is not even close to being finished, there are spots that haven't even been painted yet and his crew used paint on the pressure treated wood on both porches, when it is colored stain that was agreed upon. At this point, what I will accept is a signed contract that J & J painting will rectify all these issues I have outlined in the spring of 2023. If this is not agreeable, I will be forced to turn this matter over to my attorney and seek a full refund.
