I recently was going over my elderly mothers bills when I noticed that she has been paying $100.00 a month for the subscription of The Saratogian newspaper. I found this subscription price to be out of the norm for other comparible newspapers in the same geographical area. Two newspapers that I referenced are the ************ and the ******************** These two newspapers subscription rates are approximately $30.00 a month, over 300% a month less than The Saratogian's rate. I believe The Saratogian has acted in bad faith with the elderly community. My mother is 88 years old, has been a subscriber to The Saratogian for years. Only a year and a half ago I noticed she was paying an exhorbanant amount of $64.00 a month, then the rate was raised to $85.00 shortly thereafter, and now it is up to $100.00 a month for a newspaper. To add insult to injury if she paid the newsstand price for the paper, she would be saving over $500.00 a year. Looking at The Saratogians rates for new subscribers, they are offering digital and print for $76.00 a year. Unbelievable, $1,200.00 she is currently being billed for a newspaper that she has been receiving for most of her long life, but if she was a new subscriber she would be paying $76.00 a year. I truly believe The Saratogian is acting in an unethical way with our elderly community, taking advantage of their loyalty, and declining mental faculties. I was able to talk to one of their reps working from home in ******* *******, he asked what I thought was reasonable, so I referenced the subscription price of the other two papers in the same area, but he said he couldn't do that. I wasn't given a reason why my mothers rate was so high, so I decided to cancel the subscription, but I am concerned for other elderly people that might be taken advantage of from The Saratogian.Thank you for your time.
