The home construction was finished in March 2020 in Lake Placid, NY because we live in Hawaii and we were in a pandemic we were not able to fly to NY and do a visual inspection of the home. The contractor did send a video. My husband and I agreed to pay the contractor in full. We were able to finally get to the home in April 2022 and there were various items on the contract that were not completed: 1. The wainscot in the bathroom was not completed. 2. The light combo fan in the living room is broken. 3. All of the baseboards were not finished. No sanding or stain. 4. The laundry room was not finished (no tape, texture, or paint) 5. The floor in the laundry was not finished. 6. No stove or electrical outlet for the stove. 7. Shotty work on the deck nails left up and exposed. 8. Some exterior panels were not nailed on. The contractor stopped all communication and contact with us. Initially, he was working with us as there was no stove in the home, After waiting 4 weeks of texting and calling him to order a stove he ceased all communication.

      Business response

      08/10/2022

Thank you to everyone for reaching out and expressing your concerns. First of all, communication has not been ceased. I'm usually available at any time and try to respond within a reasonable timeframe. This house was started in summer 2019 and finished, inspected, and a CO issued on April 7, 2020. Along the way i always sent my client updates, pictures, and even a video when completed. All was ok. Covid or not, i feel my client had plenty of time to travel here and inspect the house.  The problem within our industry currently is lack of skilled help, and this is what we are experiencing. Due to staffing issues we have had to streamline our business model. We simply do not have the proper skilled labor in that region. We have nobody to send to address the concerns. I've offered a refund on the items that were not completed, my client declined. The stove and microwave we did order and install, along with the electrical hookups for these and the washer/dryer, and the venting of such. The flooring in the closet was installed to a point where it made sense, under the washer/dryer. There is no need to install it way in the back of a closet, under a stair landing where it is not visible at any time. All of the interior trim work has a polyurethane coat on it. I verified this with the painter. The problem with the exterior deck and nail pops is a common thing. The lumber dries out, it cracks, settles, warps. Its the nature of the material. Nails work themselves out at times. To combat this i always suggest putting on a coat of sealer. Not sure if they did this? Again, this deck is 2-1/2 years old. Some of the comments made are simply not true.Again, i'm offering a refund on the items not completed, bathroom wainscot, closet ceiling not finished, i would even give them a credit on the ceiling fan in the living room. Yes a glass bulb was broken inside the box when we opened it up. Was shipped this way. Also, i would be willing to reimburse for the above expenses should they find a local carpenter to finish said items. The choice is theirs.

      Customer response

      08/11/2022

Better Business Bureau: I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me. Reimburse me for all the work that was not finished. The wainscot in the bathroom was not completed.                        3000.00The light combo fan in the living room is broken.                            250.00  (It is not just a bulb. It is the glass that goes over the bulb that is broken so the fan will have to be completely replaced. All of the base boards were not finished. No sanding or stain.          500.00  (The pictures clearly show that baseboards were not sanded and stained.) The contractor should have noticed this during the inspection) Refer to picture.                        The laundry room was not finished (no tape, texture, or paint)        250.00  (Just because the laundry room is a closet it still needs painting and the floor needs to be completed. All other closets were painted and flor was done. The floor in the laundry was not finished.                                       250.00No electrical outlet for stove.                                                        275.00  (Yes, the stove was installed however, it took 4 weeks to get the contractor to order the stove. The microwave was ordered however it was never installed. Shotty work on the deck nails left up and exposed.                        200.00  (Various parts of the deck had to redone for safety due to the nails protruding)Some exterior panels not nailed on.                                              300.00  (Some panels had to be replaced others were nailed back on and sanded)Total: $5125.00 Regards, M****** ******
