We hired Dan to install steps and a patio in April 2023, with the agreement that he would have the work done in June 2023 (in time for a planned party). By September, the work was still not completed and we let him go. Half of the money was paid upfront, as agreed upon, and then he did not show up to start the work until we sent numerous messages back and forth. It took him over a month to even get us samples. He took off our existing wood steps in early June, and dug a hole, not returning to install the steps until the day before the party at the end of June. He didnt finish them, so the steps were not useable. Several weeks went by after this before he returned to start our patio and finish our steps. He dug a hole and left for another several weeks, leaving us with a big pit of water in the yard. After many more messages back and forth, including a number of excuses he has given other people, for why the work was not being done, he came back in late August and completed the patio. By September, the project still was not completed. Dan asked for more money for product that was supposed to be ordered weeks before, and told us he didnt feel comfortable finishing the project unless we paid him the rest of the money. We decided it was time to be done working with him. He sent another invoice, which we paid, just to be done. We had to hire another company to come finish the work. The new company informed us our steps were not to code and were not installed properly, so they will need to be completely taken out and redone next year. 2 months later, we recieved a bill from the company from which Dan purchased the materials, because he never paid them. After reviewing the bill, the materials we were billed for werent even all used at our house. When our lawyer sent the receipts for our payments to Dan, the lawyer for the supplier filed a mechanic's lein against our house.

I contracted with Dan Nelson of DN Hardscaping to install a paver patio, firepit, sidewalk and steps in my backyard. Work began in November 2020. He and his partner worked through the winter, despite the snow. The bulk of the work was completed in June of 2021, but every aspect of the project dragged on. Dan rarely showed up consistently- especially to complete the final details of the project, including the stairs. When he finally showed up to install the caps on the stairs in late June, he realized he had not measured properly and ordered the wrong size. He offered multiple excuses over the next three months as to why he couldn't finish the stairs, including: his son being sick, his phone not working, his truck being broken, the caps not coming in from the supplier, etc. He finished the caps around the 24th of September. However, there were several pieces of the border missing that he has promised to finish installing ever since. It has been 6 month and it has yet to be completed. I have called and texted dozens of times to no avail. When he does respond to texts, he promises to "be there" by the end of the weekend or that night, etc. and has never showed. He has also been extremely rude, accusing me to acting crazy and telling me to stop reaching out and asking about this. Last night after he ignored all of my texts the past few days, I sent a message on his DN Hardscaping's FB page asking him to respond to my messages. He immediately responded by text telling me it wasn't necessary and it was essentially inconsiderate of me to do that, as I didn't have any regard for why he was not responding. He claims he has been sick. He also commented that me doing so surely isn't going to make him want to finish the job any sooner. I just need this job finished. He has been paid in full and this has been going on for nearly a year an a half.
