I am writing to report ongoing, unauthorized billing by the International Association of Professional Writers & Editors (IAPWE), despite multiple cancellation attempts. I initially signed up believing this was a reputable freelance writing platform, but shortly after, I realised the membership was not what I expected and attempted to cancel.I have sent numerous emails requesting cancellation and confirmation that my membership has been terminated. I have received no response, and IAPWE continues to attempt charges on my account. This is unacceptable and appears to be a pattern of behavior that other writers have also reported.I believe I was misled into providing payment information under the impression that the service was legitimate and easy to cancel, when in fact it has been incredibly difficult to get any response or resolution.Business Response

The complainant has falsely stated that they were charged without authorization. The complainant was required to agree to our payment terms on multiple separate screens before being able to create their account and the complainant cancelled their own subscription as per our instructions, yet still has an outstanding balance of $63.84 in unpaid membership dues. The complainant is engaging in blatant defamation and this complaint and is in direct violation of the BBB's own complaint policies.Initial Complaint

Based on the numerous complaints against this organization who has clearly ignored cancellation requests, I am making my complaint. I canceled my "membersip" on 06/16/25 (billed 06.17.25) 24 hours before the new billing on 06.17.25. Since each complaint I've read the same pattern seems to take place (ignore and refuse refunds and cancellations) my complaint is warranted. This organizations has charged my account knowing that the account and membership was canceled. I've seen other companies who do this, one example was a home warranty company. The federal government at one point charged and convicted officers in that company. Given the complaints here and the similar pattern established, I must conclude that the charge was intentional. I DEMAND A REFUND or I will do a chargeback at the bank if necessary.Business Response

The complainant was instructed multiple times on how to cancel their subscription through their own PayPal account. The complainant's claim that there is any intentional billing against their wishes does not make sense given that they have been provided with instructions on how to cancel their account multiple times. We can confirm that the complainant's account is now cancelled.Initial Complaint

They are asking for pay information that they say I must give them to locate my account. I investigated this information. EVERY resource I have and ****** themselves says that the information they asked for is not meant to be shared. I refused to give it to them. They are still attempting to charge me.

I have attempted to cancel this membership 4times since December 2024. Ive done this on the website as well as via email. They keep taking $4.99 out of my ****** account ********** like my 4x$4.99 returned and my membership permanently cancelled.Business Response

Due to the fact that the complainant was instructed to cancel their subscription through their own ****** account and never did so, these are valid charges that are ineligible for refund. As of today, their subscription is still showing as active, which means that the complainant never completed the cancellation steps that were sent to them. We can confirm that the complainant's account has been cancelled and that there will be no further charges. We apologize if the complainant is not satisfied with resolution, however, we are unable to issues refunds to users who do not complete the cancellation steps sent to them.Initial Complaint

I canceled my subscription to this business vis their website on December 13, 2024, but was still charged in January. I reached out to the company vis email with my cancellation information and they promised to make sure the subscription was cancelled, never saying anything about refunding me the money I was charged. But then once again,I was charged for IAPWE in February (todayFeb 6, 2025). I reached out to ****** and sent them my information with proof of cancellation, and they confirmed that they would dispute the companys charge, but I still havent heard anything back from IAPWE, And again, I still havent had any confirmation about getting the money back for February or January. This company is a scam and no matter how many times you cancel through their website, which I did at first, nor how many times you confirm that cancellation through email, you still continue to get charged for it. I canceled online through their website, reached out to them twice in email, and Im still having these issues.Business Response

This organization is a scam!!! I originally signed up for the free trial and then immediately cancelled my subscription using ****** since that is what the ***** stated on their website was the easiest way to cancel the subscription . This was a year ago ( January 2024) . Earlier today I got an email from ****** that iwape had withdrawn $59.88 out of my account. I was so confused because I remember canceling my subscription so I go through my email and sure enough I find an email from ****** from January 2024 stating that the subscription had been deactivated. So why was I charged? I go through my email and I find another email from February 2024 that says the subscription was reactivated by the merchant!!! I did not do this!! Iapwe had reactivated my subscription through ****** without my consent I want a refund!!Business Response

Despite what the complainant has stated in their complaint, it clearly shows that the complainant cancelled their subscription on 1/30/2025, after this payment for their many months of outstanding and unpaid membership dues was processed. The complainant's subscription has been cancelled since the aforementioned date and no charged have taken place since then. Any charges made prior to their account cancellation are valid and cannot be refunded in this case.Initial Complaint

I subscribed for their service with automatic monthly payments. Months ago, I asked them to cancel my subscription, and they said they would. Two more times I continued to have payments withdrawn and two more times I asked them to cancel my subscription and refund me, and they said they would. I just got another payment withdrawn. I would like a refund for the payments ($15 total), and I want my subscription canceled.Business Response

As of today, 2/11/2025, the complainant still has not cancelled their subscription. The subscription cancellation is a self-serve process that can be done at any point through the individual's own ****** account. We have gone ahead and cancelled the complainant's subscription.Initial Complaint

I was looking for jobs on indeed when the website IAPWE emailed me asking me if I would like to be part of their association for writers so that I could easily find writing jobs. I could not see the contents of the website before signing up, but when I signed up, they force you to create a subscription to get money taken out even if you want to be a person that uses the website for free. When I finally got into the website after signing up for the free months I realized that it was nothing like how they advertised it. It was basically just a hub full of other jobs for writing. So essentially it was just indeed again, but for writing and it wasnt what I was looking for, and it wasnt what I was promised. I did some research on the website and I found out that they normally typically do this where they act as if theyre reading your writing Prompt that you submitted and theyve selected you but in all honesty, they choose everybody because theyre garnering money from the actual subscriptions. in less than 24 hours, I canceled my subscription and still for the last three months I was getting charged. I dont have access to the site since I canceled the subscription. I have no access to the site, but they still kept taking money from my account through ******. I messaged them individually through an email that was sent to me from ****** and theyre sending my cancellation up for review. I dont understand what they are reviewing. I canceled my subscription. I am no longer using their site. I dont have access to my profile in their site so they are just essentially taking money from me and theyre reviewing the possibility that I can , remove myself from their subscription program. It doesnt make sense. When you research them you find out that its very difficult to cancel your subscription and Im seeing that it is absolutely a head ache even going through ****** to get it removed.Customer Answer
