I am filing this complaint regarding an unauthorized $9,000 charge made by National Debt Relief, which I was suddenly told to pay without prior explanation or consent.About a year ago, I received an initial settlement offer. However, I was unable to accept it because my questions about the offer were not clearly answered by their representatives. Understandably, I could not agree to terms that I did not fully understand.Over the course of the following year, I repeatedly tried to settle my debt through National Debt Relief, but I did not receive the support I needed to proceed with any of the offers presented. I was left to navigate the process alone despite my willingness to resolve the ********* the first week of April 2025, I received a new settlement offer. I informed them that I needed time to review the terms. I was clearly told that I had until April 23 to make a decision, and that the offer would remain unchanged during that period. However, on April 19, when I called for a follow-up, I was toldcompletely out of the bluethat I needed to pay $9,000 in order to maintain my account. When I asked why, the representative repeatedly said there was nothing they could do. I was given no proper explanation or alternatives.I firmly believe this charge is unjustified and unacceptable. I have also been making consistent monthly payments to cover attorney fees through National Debt Relief. Given these circumstances, I respectfully request that this charge be immediately canceled and removed.I am also submitting this complaint to the ************************************ (****) and the ************************ (***), as I believe this is a serious matter of concern for consumer protection.Business Response

I have enrolled my debt into this program. I had used them in the past and their service was excellent! In fact, I recommended them to other people. However, this time is an absolute nightmare. Something definitely has changed. I have asked them on numerous occasions to email me updates about my account. They refuse to do so and call me continuously even though I told them that I teach and cannot answer my phone. I am working two jobs, and I am working my second job in the evening. All I want is for them to email me settlement offers and updates via email, so I know what is going on with my account. I do not think that this is an unreasonable request and I have asked several times to no avail.Business Response

I joined National Debt Relief on 7/11/2022 due to job loss and unable to pay for loans. I got divorced in November 2023 and added a new creditor and provided an update on an existing one. The original creditor had sold my debt to a third party collector. I informed *** of this. They added the new creditor (** Bounce) to the account, but kept the original creditor (24 Advance) on as well. This was not realized until I started calling ******* 2025 asking why the ** Bounce was not yet settled. I was told multiple times that they were close to a settlement. Then I get a call from *** in March 2025 stating that they in fact never made contact with company and needed a new statement. That is when I realized they had already paid off the original creditor therefore my account with ** Bounce was resolved. *** quickly removed the creditor and paid off the remaining settlements as I had grossly overpaid them. After the final payments made, I have $2.341.74 left that is supposed to be returned to me. Though the very last payment to the last creditor has cleared but *** keeps having trouble updating their system to reflect that which is preventing me from my graduation review to get my money back. The payment cleared in March 23, 2025. I have spoken to 5 different agents online who all said the same thing of escalating the account. I spoke to one person over the phone where they reviewed my account with me and assured me that I was going to receive an email in 2-3 business days confirming my graduation status. This has already passed and still have no action being taken on my account. They have been lying to me since ******* regarding my account and now refused to fix the issue so I can receive the funds I overpaid them due to their negligence.Customer Answer

My husband has been talking with Ramy of National Debt Relief. The document was electronically signed for me (initials only), and signed by my husband, we did not receive a copy. The $717 was paid April 1 to national debt relief by electronic *********** April 9, we have received numerous phone calls from our bank from the credit cards that we hadn't paid our bills and we are now late and being charged interest on the accounts that ******************** debt said they would start negotiating. So today my husband and I called together and spoke with ****, who explained to us they weren't starting negotiating for 4 to 6 months until we had paid 25% of our total debt of ****** which would have been $16,500; which we won't reach for several months or years. We now have several accounts that have charged late fees and interest because we thought national debt relief would start negotiating immediately and they're telling us they want until we paid them 25%. We don't have the 25% and now our bank loans are in jeopardy of going to collection. Between my husband and I we have had many medical bills and he is physically disabled and I work outside of the home three different jobs (one full-time job and two part-time jobs) and we still can't make the payments which is why we seek out national debt relief with the "government buyout" national debt relief is advertising and hooking people. I asked them to refund the $717 and take us off this contract we do not agree with it we were not told the truth or the whole story and we can't do it. This upsets me for someone who has tried to pay back all her bills and yet I feel scammed. That is why I'm writing you I hope they're not doing this to anybody else this is wrong you should be told the whole thing up front you should be sent the documents the day you sign them and we shouldn't have to wait 48 hours to talk to a supervisor about this problem. I want her $717 return to us immediately.Thank youBusiness Response

I had an account with ***********, which obviously changed the name to Truist, for over $9000. Truist contacted a collection agency which sent me an offer of half of the amount of $4528. I was willing to pay that so I sent the information to National debt relief on December 11, 2024. National debt relief did nothing with that. Then they called me and told me that I had graduated without paying that amount. I had to pay the amount myself.. They offered no explanation as to why they did not pay that. They had all the information in the letter that was emailed to them. They they tried to get in touch with me, but I never received a call.. I asked to speak to a supervisor about it and they said that they could not do anything about it. I just didnt want anybody else to get into this situation. I had over $40,000 in credit card debt. All they saved me was a little over $7500.. They kept asking for more money every time they settled something which they told me I would never have to put more money in the account.Business Response

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# ********, and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:[Your Answer Here]
I have spoke with them several times and they did not have any kind of solution or resolution to my problem. I just want people to know how they work. They probably will not help me.. I wouldve done better doing all this on my own.
I feel they should pay for at least half of what I had to pay..
In order for the BBB to appropriately process your response, you MUST answer the question above.

In September 2025, I enrolled in the National Debt Relief Program, motivated by the promise of manageable solutions for my financial challenges. The representative assured me that I would only lose a few points on my credit score, which seemed like a small price to pay for relief. I committed to making monthly payments of $259 to settle my debts with my creditors. However, after six months, the company had only contributed a mere $324 towards reducing my medical bill. When I reached out to the creditor, I was disheartened to learn that my total balance remained ************ my dismay, I experienced a drastic drop of over 200 points in my credit score, plummeting from a healthy 690 to the low 400s. This decline has not only damaged my financial credibility but has also taken a toll on my emotional well-being, leading to severe depression and distress. I had always maintained timely payments to my creditors, and I now realize that if I had personally communicated with them, they likely would have been willing to negotiate lower monthly payments or interest rates.Regrettably, National Debt Relief has not refunded my money, leaving me feeling unsupported and frustrated. I share this experience to highlight the importance of proactive communication in financial matters and to encourage others to take control of their situations.Business Response

I have been with National Debt Relief for over a year and have paid off more than half of my debts. Recently, after changing banks, I've updated my account information three times, but they have failed to draft from my new account due to processing errors. After 30 days without progress, I requested to deposit money directly, but I never received the wire instructions promised. Now, we are approaching 60 days with a zero balance, and I've learned that a previously negotiated debt is no longer under negotiation, which could lead to higher payments. This negligence has put my credit at risk and caused significant stress for my spouse and me. I've repeatedly asked to speak with someone to resolve this, but the only response has been to wait. Their mishandling of my account means they profit from their mistakes, while my business and credit suffer. I need assurance that I can be made whole and that the damage caused by this ordeal will be rectified.Business Response

on March 28th while on the phone with a *** and my father as witness was informed of what my payout amount was and we asked multiple times to confirm. We provided that exact amount. When I spoke to an *** on 03/31/2025 I was informed that I will owe more money that was was told to me. On top of that it may take them 3 months to ask to the credit companies if they want their lump some payment. which makes no sense what company wouldn't want their money all at once. They are trying to hold me longer in the Debt program to make more money off of me.Business Response
