I started seeing *********************************** in June ***************************************** my building and my prior dentist retired. I presented my ******************* which is supposed to cover two cleanings per year, and annual x-rays for both myself, *******************, and my daughter, *******************. I saw the Doctor on 6/19/2020 and then again on 7/21/2021. My daughter visited on 8/14/2020 8/6/2021.For the visits made during 2020, insurance paid what they deemed to be the reasonable and customary charges for the visits. I received no additional bills and assumed that the services were covered in full. When I arrived for my January 2022 appointment, I was told that I had outstanding invoices from 2021. I had never received a ****. They emailed me a **** upon request and said that I owe $472 for **** and $348 for ****. I called the office to discuss, letting them know that my understanding was that my cleanings would be covered in full by insurance and they said that they had just forgotten to charge me for 2020 because they were not in the office. My feeling is that they communicated that the cleanings and x-rays were covered, were happy to take the insurance money for a new patient in 2020, mislead me to believe that they would accept my insurance as the only source of payment, and then proceeded to charge me exhorbitant rates above and beyond my insurance for 2021.I am very upset by the manipulation. I would never have chosen this dentist if I knew the rates and that it was not covered by insurance. I also have never in the 25 years of living in *** seen these kinds of rates. Typically a routine cleaning runs around $200-$300 without insurance, even with the top dentists.I would like to be relieved of these financial responsibilities. I will be switching dentists to a provider that accepts my insurance as the full coverage for routine cleanings and who is honest and transparent about what to expect.
