I have gone to this gym since around 2021. I have had bad experiences with gyms in the past and so for the first 2 years paid for the year up front in cash. 2024 rolls around and I don't feel like forking over the ~$400 up front. Against my better judgement I give them my card info and signed up. Immediately I start getting charges for both retro fitness AND ****** ******. This is especially upsetting because of my history with ****** ******. Years earlier I had been paying them for the year upfront in cash when suddenly they claimed I owed them money. I already paid so it's impossible I owe any money. So instead, they charged my mothers card which they had on file from her paying for a membership for my sister years earlier. Must have seen the same last name. They essentially stole from my mother's pocket book. They then shut down that location so I didn't even get the whole year I had paid for.So anyway, 2024. Gave Retro my card info and it was immediately compromised. Started getting charges for both Retro AND ****** ****** after all these years. Some of the charges are days apart so they're not even reflective of a monthly fee. If they do stuff like this to me they're doing it to others as well. How you can give one gym your card info and it ends up in the hands of another unrelated gym is beyond me. These gyms hide behind the guise of a business and I'm sure they have some bureaucratic nonsensical excuse as to how it happened. From my perspective though it appears they're all in collusion together. The next problem will be they'll be hitting me with late fees and wanting to know how I'm going to continue to pay because I had to cancel my card and get a new one as per my bank's recommendations. If they think I'm giving them my new card info they're mistaken. I'll be getting screwed for a 3rd time over this whole endeavor and I can already see it coming. They s**** you, you have no recourse, and they suffer no consequences.

I was a member of the gym for years, after the pandemic I started obtaining equipment of my own as the gym was closed. In September 2022 I called my gym they told me to cancel I need to come in person or certified mail. At this point I have already moved far away but decided to drive in and cancel my membership. on 10/8/22 I went in person filled out a cancelation form provided my Photo ID and than snapped a photo of the form after the employee signed it for my records. I have since than been contacted multiple times regarding payment for my membership and they have never canceled my membership. *** solutions told me the only way to cancel is through certified mail. I than called the gym location on 3-way with *** solutions and the team member told me to cancel I need to come in person and fill out a form! which I completed on 10/8/22 with the proof! I asked for manager who not around never or only M-F 5am-10am which at that point is not helpful right! My membership should of been canceled on 10/8/22. At this point after months of going back and forth with *** solutions through emails sending them proof of my cancelation I decided to obtain a lawyer. You can not be ripping off customers because your employee's and or your financial **** are not on the same page with one another. It shouldn't be this difficult to properly cancel a gym membership!

The complaint is about gym membership that I've attempted to cancel for about a year now. I called the vendor multiple times to cancel my membership that I have no contractual commitment to. People picking up the phone tell me that a manager will call me back and he or she never does. I called **************** to reverse the three most recent charges (maximum I can do) for $32.65 each and block the vendor from applying further charges. **************** reversed the charges and blocked the vendor, identified as ABC*Retro Fitness from applying further charges. On October 15, Retro Fitness under a slightly different name **** Retro Fitness charges me $126.45, which I assume is for the three reversed charges plus for the current month. This fraud. I can't call it anything else. I've contacted **************** to reverse the latest charge of $126.45 and block the other name used to apply the charge from further transactions. I ask that you please investigate this matter and help me get my money for at least six months and block this vendor from applying further charges. I'm almost certain this issue impacts multiple clients. I understand businesses are struggling to survive during the pandemic but what Retro Fitness is doing is illegal.

Back in August, I decided to join Retro Fitness on ******************************************************************************, before I went on vacation. While on vacation, I had an accident and hurt my back. When I returned, I put my account on hold for two months while I attended physical therapy (which I still attend two times a week) and to give my back some time to heal. I was advised that if I needed to cancel, I had until Nov. 29 to do so and I would NOT be charged. Well, I cancelled about three weeks ago and still got charged. I spoke to ***** this morning (11/4/2021) and she said that it charged me for the month of October. I cancelled, it unfreezes my account and I got charged. Retro Fitness got $150 of my money for nothing because I did not attend not one day. I would like to be reimbursed. I cancelled my membership about three weeks ago. It makes no sense for me to be charged when I was advised to cancel by 11/29/2021 so I would not be charged. I cancelled with over a month in advance and I was still charged.

******************* joined Retro fitness on July 30th 2021. Shortly after she asked to be put on freeze for one month in August 2021. The freeze resumed in September 2021. ***** called in October to cancel her membership on October 25th 2021. As per her agreement we need 7 days notice in writing mailed to Retro Fitness. *********** signed an Agreement that stated that. At this present time she is cancelled with no further payments.

      Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# ********, and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

[When I visited the gym in July to ask about the membership, ***** gave me a tour and made it seem that the "sale" they had going on, would not be available when I returned from my vacation. (I left on vacation that weekend and I injured my back when I was away). When I returned to *** in the beginning ofAug , I contacted Retrofitness because I visited an orthopedic doctor who recommended that I go to physical therapy two-three times a week. I asked to freeze my account for two months, not one. A week later after my freeze, my account was billed another $60. When I called to ask why, ***** advised that it is the annual charge and I would not be charged again until I return.  ***** also told me that if I needed to cancel, I had until November 29, 2021. Which I did, well in advance. I cancelled in the beginning of October because my back was not getting better. I needed to make sure my back is right before I returned. Due to fact that my back was not healing, I am still in physical therapy a few times a week.  When I cancelled, I was not advised of any extra payment I had to made. I even told *****, please make sure that I do not get charged again because your reviews on ****** state that there are several people still being charged on a monthly basis and they cancelled a long time ago.  Retrofitness already took $150 of which I NEVER attended one day.  Had the company not made that extra charge, I would not have filed a complaint. I asked to speak to the Owner and ***** advised that he rarely goes there. That if I need to speak to him,  I would have to call every single day and just maybe, I would be able to speak to him.  Right now, we are still amidst a pandemic, many people do not have extra money to be giving away or forcibly paying without an explanation.  ***** was very rude and disrespectful as a manager. She should not be working with people. She needs to take some hospitality classes and maybe, if she would help the customer instead of her pocket, things would have turned out differently. My plan was to return but when I was completely healed. Location was convenient but now, after what I read on ****** and my own experience, I will never recommend nor step a foot in this place again. I didn't request a fully refund, just my last payment returned. Now I am out $150 and have an injured back with no consideration from the gym. ]
