      Complaint Type:
      Service or Repair Issues
      Status:
      Answered
Today I contacted the office of ************************************ at *** on behalf of my husband, who was seen at the ** at ******************* ** Presbyterian and advised to seek care with this Neurosurgeon for a follow-up appointment. He is in extreme pain. The staff scheduled the appt for Monday and then I posed the question of whether they deal with Workers comp, she asked me if I have a claim and I said no, a claim has not been filed. She proceeded to state that she now needs the appt reviewed by mgmt. b/c they don't accept Workers comp claims. I corrected her and told her like I said, we haven't filed a workers comp claim nor was it reported as such at the hospital and I was simple just posing the question. She said she would need to now still check with her mgr, ***** called me back, I called back a second time and was told the appt was cancelled. When I asked why she again presumed about a WC claim which I again indicated we are not pursuing and are using our Aetna coverage. I asked her to escalate the call to a mgr, 2 hours later manager calls, I again reiterate that I need an appt ASAP my husband is in tremendous pain, I told her we are not pursuing a WC claim, she proceeds to tell me she needs to review my call from earlier to see if WC was indicated and did not take my word for it. I again tell her it was only an inquiry and that we dont have a WC claim and she did not take my word for it. I told her I cannot even do business with an office that treats new patients with such disrespect. I feel that we have been discriminated against, merely b/c I posed question about WC and our hispanic last name. This practice needs to review its protocols and train their staff, you cannot run a business based on assumptions and is it even legal to blatantly REFUSE care? What kind of practice are they running. The office is located at: ******************************************************************* The phone number is: **************.

My husband a mini-stroke 6 months ago and is Neurologist suggested we take him to *** outpatient rehap center in Queens, **. Before I made the appointment I had *** check to see if would be covered by his insurance and they said it would be and and that it would only be a co-pay of ***** for each 30 minute session. A month later I received a bill for $710.00! I called the insurance company and they said that the *** billing department coded the bill incorrectly saying it was for a Hospital visit. These were for OUTPATIENT sessions only and we paid the copay after each session. My husband never was in an *** hospital. I called and ask to speak to a Supervisor and was told 5 times someone would call me but, no call. Now it's been 20 days and at least 10 calls later, and not only is the bill the same but that I have to wait another ***** days for this to be escalated and dealt with! This is not only outrageous and unprofessional, but has added unnecessary stress to an already stressful, painful time for me as a caretaker and for him as a patient. The ****************** is a complete mess and completely unprofessional! Though the therapists were great, I would never recommend *** if this is how the ****************** is run.No Patient should ever have to deal with this ongoing bureaucratic and financial nightmare when trying to recover from a major health event that has left patient and his family is an already dire state. This experience and left me with no faith in this establishment and I would never recommend theirs services as they haven't got a clue and their ****************** goes out of their way to overcharge and not take any accountability.
