Buyer beware! When I left teaching in Native villages of ******, I left my classroom library behind, worth around $2,000 - all bought from Scholastic over the years. Once in WA, I placed an order in the amount of $774.76 to restart my classroom library.I had to return all the duplicate books they sent me on accident. Their mistake, but I sent them the books. I was honest. Then, I decided to leave the classroom shortly after all the books had arrived. I had not even touched them, still wrapped and in a box. I mailed them all the books I had ordered on September 20 through ********** mail. I had my name, account number, and order number on and in the box. Remember, I had already sent the duplicates. Its now November 21, two months later, and no refund. They are saying they got the books I didnt pay for, but not the ones I dideven though three people had told me the books arrived. I was dumb and did not keep the tracking number. Stupidest mistake of my life because now Schooastic is refusing to refund me unless I can give the tracking number. Now they have ALL their books, my $774.76, and I have nothing except the stress of losing almost $800 just because I dont have one number. They have the books. I did what I needed to do, and they are choosing to refuse to consider they have the books and are s******* me financially. If I choose to go back into the classroom next year, since I do love teaching, rest assured I will not be handing out flyers to my kids and not be using Scholastic for my classroom library.Review from Marianne K

I placed an order through Scholastic ********* in December 2021 for $74.71. At this time, Scholastic charged my credit card for the order. Scholastic, however, never sent me my book order even though my credit card was charged for the order. I hear nothing from Scholastic. Then, in July 2023, Scholastic sends me an email with an invoice showing a credit balance for the $74.71. I think, great, I'll spend my credit balance on a future order. So on October 26, 2023, I login to my Scholastic ********* account to place an order, but to my surprise, I do not have a credit balance on my account. I contact ********************** ********* to inquire about my credit balance and find out that my credit balance was 'written off'. So basically, Scholastic took it upon themselves to just take my money. I never received a second invoice showing a credit balance. I didn't recieve a letter letting me know my balance would be unavailble after a certain length of time. Nothing. Most companies would have just refunded my money since the order was not fulfilled (and/or my credit card would not have been charged prior to sending the product). Scholastic did not continue to provide invoices showing the credit balance, but instead choose to write off my balance essentially just stealing my money. After contacting Scholastic again, they are supposedly sending me a refund check for the $74.71, but this is only after my chasing them down to obtain it. I will not purchase from Scholastic again, and I advise you of their poor business practices and be wary if purchasing from them!!!!Review from Kristin G

They double charged my credit card. When asked to correct the problem they claimed it was not a glitch on their end since it was a delay of 3 minutes and 28 seconds between the charges. They refuse to corrected the problem till my order came in. I did receive our original purchased book order. I did not get any extra books. So the double charge was not a repeat order as they originally claimed. They then tried to claim that since the issue occurred over 4 weeks ago (that is how long we had to wait for book order to come in, before they would discuss the double charge issue again) that they can only offer this second charge as a gift card. I just want the second charge of money back. At this point I have to ask is this a scam company that works under the guise of the importance of literacy? I cant believe we allow this in public schools.Review from RacheL S

Shady billing practices. I authorized ****** payment through my Scholastic Book Club account for two book orders. They only charged 3 out of 4 books to my ****** account. Then they started sending me invoices telling me I owe. I logged into my Scholastic account but it shows I paid with ******. I reviewed my ****** account and see they didn't charge me for the last book. I call to get it straightened out and they say I have to give my credit card number over the phone. I cannot pay through my account online or through ******. I want a secure payment method but they are not offering me one. After reading everything here I DEFINTELY do NOT want to give them my credit card number. They need to fix their billing practices. It seems they just want to collect personal banking information.Review from Elizabeth D

I placed an order through Scholastic in September, and my card was charged $77.58. Between the time I ordered and the lag of Scholastic to finally send the order out my original card had been canceled. So I ended up getting a invoice for $81.58 since supposedly the original charge was only a hold (though I could see it on my credit card). They attempted to charge me more because supposedly the sale tax can change any time they feel like it. So I not realizing they have over charged me for my original order. On top of that they are trying to tell me I still own money and the new invoice they sent out is supposedly 90+ days old but this is the first time I ever received anything. According to the original order I made I owe $16.50 but the invoice is suddenly for $35.01. BUYER BEWARE this company is shady and you will not always get what you order. It makes me mad because they are supposed to be there to help teachers and I can only imagine how much they are ******** them over.Review from Shannon L

Scholastic has the worst customer support that I have encountered in recent years. I have emailed them three times and called three times as well and have not received a response. Like others have stated, they charged customers for items ordered several months ago. They did send an email stating that this would be occurring, however they made numerous billing errors. It seems like they have an incompetent offshore team manually keying in the charges. My Scholastic account listed seven orders between October 2021 - January 2021 totaling $174.87 as of 2/3/22. Now my account lists the same seven orders but with a new total of $198.87. For seven orders, Scholastics processed nine charges to my credit card in all different amounts that do not reconcile to any of the individual orders that add up to $198.86 in total. Needless to say, I am not ordering from this company again...and I'm spreading the word in addition to disputing credit card charges.Review from Ana W

I returned my order to scholastic, following the steps that their representative stated over the phone and now they wont refund my purchase, which was over $300. I spent $20 to ship it back via to them via ground commercial. Their warehouse was closed for 2 months, their system changed over the summer and now they cant find my order and they wont refund me the money. Ive tried to contact them many times but it takes over an hour on the phone to get a hold of a representative. When I was able to speak to someone and follow through the many changes in their system to find my account and order, they requested a credit card statement showing that i shipped the items. After that, they requested a tracking number, which I didnt have. It was already 9 months later. They were closed and unreachable for 3 of those months. I asked them to show me where the tracking number is requested to ship items, as in a policy, and they dont have one. All they ask when you return is that you place the initial order label inside the box, which I did. Scholastic works with and for teachers. It is through us that they make most of their earnings. They cant expect us to spend more that $20 on a return nowadays when every business accepts free returns and offers returns labels to ensure them. I have spoken to several people and all them ask for a tracking number and offer no solution. I have spent several thousands of dollars on scholastic books for my classrooms over the years. They should offer better customer support than that.Review from Dorie W.

Ordered 2 separate book orders so each child could get their books separate 9/2021 because we were not allowed in the school for the book fair. Did not receive 1st books until end October and 2nd order not received until November 2021. Then I get an email saying they were going to charge my card for the orders in February 2022. Almost 6 months after I placed the order!!! I paid my orders in September when I placed the book order. If your company doesn't take the money them that's on you. It's insane and now I am bring told to return the books if I do not pay for them!! How sad to have to take books back from a child after 6 months because you run a ****** business. Never will we spend money on your bookfair or online. I am so sad for all the families this has happened to.Review from susan K

They do not send you things that you order and charge you for them. They do not track items and tell you too bad, it was sent. They make you wait over an hour to talk to someone and they do not get back to you on emails. So frustrated by this company.Review from Maria P

We've placed several orders over the years. We've had unreasonable shipping delays and missing items several times. Most recently, we placed an order in October ************************************* February 2022. We will never be ordering from Scholastic again.
