I stated to the front desk that I wanted to sign up for a trial membership, she signed me up for something else and charged me more than what I was supposed to be charged. I never received the email description of what was supposed to be a trial membership. I went into detail on why I only wanted a trial to see if I could fit this gym into my schedule, which I couldn’t. I informed the lady at the desk that i thought they were charging me too much and i would not be signing up for a normal membership in person. Then when I tried to let them know it wouldn’t work with my schedule over the phone after they charged me again, they said because I had a different membership I had to come in and put it in writing. I did not have time to go back to Newark for a mistake I did not make and they continued to try to collect money from me. I received the email with the description of a membership I did not sign up for after I argued with them over the phone. I have paid them almost $200 for a trial membership. When I reported them to my bank it was explained to me that they scam a lot of people by their terms and conditions and signing other people up for things they never agreed too, and I was not the first person to bring this to their attention. They are still harassing me for money I do not owe them.Business response

On 12/1/21 Ms. ****** called the club after seeing the $39 price pledge payment on her statement. She spoke to Steve who explained agreement and the charge. Steve left Anthony, the General Manager, a message to call Ms. ******, who insisted she only signed up for a month. (Note: We do not have 1 month memberships. We do have month to month memberships.) Prior to Anthony contacting Ms. ******, he spoke to the attending staff person, Brooke, who signed up Ms. ******. Brooke advised that Ms. ****** was offered the month to month option as well as the 12 month commitment option as are all guests/prospects. Ms. ****** chose the 12 month commitment option along with paying the $99 annual consultation package. Ms. ****** did not want to schedule a fitness assessment appointment stating that her sister is a member at Spunk and would train her. After confirming correct email address, Anthony asked Ms. ****** why she did not contact the club on 11/1/21 when she joined after receiving her agreement and seeing the terms. Said she received it, but never read. Anthony emailed the agreement again on 12/1/21.I believe this is a case where Ms. ****** committed to something that she now wants to change due to circumstances. We are willing to terminate her membership and stop billing her. I need to know if this is acceptable by not later than Jan 15, prior to the next billing. Thank you!Bernie C*****Customer response
