This complaint is against Marshall and the pet store Petworld Warehouse in Menomonee Falls, WI. If this is not resolved I intend to seek legal recourse. We purchased two ferrets from the pet store (but bred by Marshall) and spent $350 on each ferret on 9.2.2023. One is sweet and the other was biting, so after having her one week we asked to exchange and were told no because apparently the receipt (which I got after they were already purchased and was not informed we would not be able to return prior to purchase) says we cannot return. Well the ferret attacked my three year old on 9.22.2023 completely unprovoked (jumped onto the couch tabs but her wrists) and left welts and drew blood and the pet store and Marshall will still not take the ferret back. I called Marshall the ferret Breeder who said they cannot force stores to take ferrets back and basically that I am to blame because “I wouldn’t have any pet near a three year old.” I have had many ferrets since I was 3 (in my 30s now), have a doctorate in psychology so therefore am an expert in behavior management and the ferret has not improved despite all that aforementioned knowledge in this area. I have fed the bite, I have scruffed and gently pulled her on her back as her mother would do and reinforced biting other items. I have attempted to handle this matter discretely with them each until this point as neither is willing to work with me in protecting my child from more harm. We simply want to return this ferret and get one that is not aggressive so my child doesn’t develop trauma. I have already also paid for her vet visit, distemper and rabies which was an additional $180 because Denise at Marshall suggested I still take her and see if she had a tooth issue, which she does not.

Yes, Marshall is located in New York and ships their ferrets across the United States to pet stores including PetWorld in Menomonee Falls, WI. I don’t know if I need to file a second complaint against the pet store or if it can be both included in one as I just want someone to work with me.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.  The Breeder worked with the pet store to resolve my issue.   Regards,  ******* *******

Hi, my name is ****** and I work at a pet store in ***********, TN. We get ferrets in from Marshall ferrets through a 3rd party distributer. I have done my own research on Marshall Farms as a whole and their company and things that have happened in the past. About 2 months ago, we stopped being able to order ferrets. I found out it was because their warehouse broke out with distemper and a ton of their ferrets were getting it and dying. When we got the chance to order more ferrets for our store, they came with a sheet guaranteeing that they were vaccinated and cleared of distemper and that there was an outbreak. We had received 1 ferret in and we named him Jasper. My coworker purchased Jasper after him being in our store for about a week. A week into having him, he got terminally ill. His health declined quicker and quicker each day. I did at home research and his symptoms all pointed towards distemper. Well, by this time we had already had 4 more ferrets ordered into our store. One female, Delilah, got sick 2 days into her being at our location. I took her to the vet, and even after being put on medication, died days later. Same symptoms as Jasper. A week goes by, and one of my own ferrets at my house started showing symptoms. I was terrified. My ferrets don’t leave the house and I am so cautious. I took her to the vet, and within 36 hours she was dead. I ordered a necropsy and her results came back positive for distemper. The vets office can speak on my behalf and attest to the statements I am making. They agreed the ferrets all had distemper, and my ferret helped resolve that issue of what they all died from. A week later, another of my ferrets had the same symptoms, except he suffered tremendously and distemper is 100% fatal. So, I lost 2 of my own to distemper, and my work also lost 2 to distemper and no one to blame except Marshall Farms. I want justice for my babies who didn’t deserve to die or suffer, and the same for my work’s ferrets as well.
