Zack Gelling and his crew painted our house and shed in October-November of 2022. They were pleasant to deal with at first and fairly efficient in their work. Their attention to detail on the house was lacking, however, as they dripped paint on several of our windows and painted parts of the foundation with house paint instead of the agreed upon masonry paint. Their work on our shed on the same day was of poor quality. The paint in places is so thin that the old color shows through. They missed some areas completely. I had the flu at the time so I only saw the results afterward but I contacted Zack and he said he would make things right. It took 11 months of texting and calling for me to get Zack to come back. When he finally showed up, we had a conversation and he left to buy supplies. He never came back. He hasn't answered his phone and he hasn't responded to text messages for weeks now, despite the contract and warranty he signed. No matter how great the guarantees sound up front, they're clearly worthless if they're not honored. Zack's behavior has been both unprofessional and untrustworthy, and Gelling Painting Service doesn't deserve your business.

    Gelling Painting Services Response

Hello *******, First I’d like to say, I’m sorry you feel you’ve had a bad experience with us. It is always our priority to give our clients the best experience regardless of how big or small the project is! I would like to address some of your comments in your review if I could. We had an agreed upon contract and in that contract we fulfilled it and in my opinion went above and beyond during the days of painting your house to satisfy and work with you on your project to make sure you were proud and happy. So much so, that you added to have your garage/shed to be painted when we were done with the house. So this is out of left field. We never used house paint on your foundation. When we started your project you said you wanted everything to be the same color scheme. Some parts of the foundation were the same as the house color because of its big area. So we painted it in the right paint, just the wrong color. You then said, you wanted it changed to another color and we did so happily on the parts you wanted. We always ensure our work and warranties because we do great work and stand by it. We scheduled your warranty work and when we got there to complete it were shown a bunch of new wood railings and siding from other contractors repairing rotten or broken boards from over winter and we informed you that our warranties cover our work. For example, paint peeling. Etc..Not new construction. Again, we’re sorry you felt you haven’t had a good experience with us, but if any work does appear under the warranty we’ll be happy to come out and address it just like last time ******* and just like I had mentioned to you!

Zack, The response you offer is simply and demonstrably untrue and we have the photos to show it. While part of our foundation is correctly painted with masonry paint, which is a different color from our house, another part of our foundation is painted in the house color. Because we have no masonry paint in color of the house, it’s clear that you did not use the “right paint.” You told us you would repaint that area with masonry paint as we originally agreed - but you did not. Nothing that you painted has been “changed to another color.” Under your 3-year warranty, the parts of the shed that are painted so thinly that the old color shows through should clearly be redone and the areas that were missed altogether should be painted and the peeling areas on the house should be redone. You didn’t do any of this. We don’t know what you ensure or stand by because you haven’t addressed a thing. When you were at our house for the initial project in 2022, we talked with you about additional painting that we wanted done, including planned repairs, so I raised some of the new work again when you were here on 10/5/23. You apparently understood at least partially because you offered some prices. If it wasn’t completely clear to you what we expected to be covered under the warranty and what we considered new work, you could and should have talked with us about it. We would have been glad to discuss any of it. Instead, you only said that you were going to buy supplies and then left. You never came back. You did no work at all. None. Moreover, to this day you have ignored all our phone calls and messages. We contacted the BBB because you have made no meaningful gesture to make things right.
