Original estimate 3/23/2022 countertop fabrication and install totaling 5,777.00 Original measurements were off. We mentioned this to the company and they did come to remeasure and then adjusted price to reflect that difference. The contractors we used for our kitchen renovations were here when Keith from top fab came to remeasure. He was made aware that the island countertop needed to extend out so that trim could be added after countertop install. Our kitchen renovation with the contractors from another company went well with no problems. I noticed another error on the estimate and notified Keith so that it could be rectified before work began. He added charges for a new sink from them although we had told him that we had already purchased a sink. This estimate was again adjusted to reflect this error on their part. The island countertop is flush with the end of the cabinets. The corners on two different pieces of countertop don’t match. We asked that he seal the countertop between the counter and wall. Keith didn’t come with the proper materials to install, so some sealant that we happened to have was used, because it was an old tube in our garage it never dried. Keith was notified of all of these things. Before leaving he encouraged us to call with any questions or concerns, so we did. Keith also did the pluming under our sink, which we paid extra for. The plumbing completely fell off a week later which meant a lot of water in our new cabinets. Top fab was notified. Keith did come to take a look at things and said “I don’t know what to say”, he told us he would need to talk to his partner and get back to us. He said he could fix the mismatched corners and sealant. We waited a week and then called the business directly. Shane, the business partner was unaware of the matter. We got a text from Keith saying there is nothing they can do because we were satisfied with the installation on the day it was completed.

      Business response

      05/31/2022

I have tried to respond to this multiple times and it won't allow me to proceed. I have sent a message to ***************************Initial Estimate February 28, 2022Quote Proposal sent March 23, 2022 @ 2:33pm.Mr. ****** approved this emailed proposal March 24th, 2022 @ 11:35am.April 1st Final Template with ContractorInstallation Date May 3, 2022 at 9:30am.Total Invoice $5407.00 Installation of ** ******* ****** ******* Quartz Countertops. No Plumbing, No backsplash and Client provided Kraus kht300-33 Single Bowl Stainless Steel Sink We have pictures during the template and after the New quartz countertop installation. Mr. ***** stated “They came back when contractor was at my house so that contractor could explain what we were doing and what we needed”. The Peninsula (not an island) was cut to the specification the contractor wanted and discussed with Keith (Employed by Top Fabricators Inc.). We make all countertops with 1 ½” overhang unless specified to be changed. Generally, there’s a limited walk-way between the wall and the countertop and in this situation it was asked to be cut flush. However, the contractor didn’t take into consideration the damaged sheetrock wall and proposed to “Trim” it out weeks after completion. The countertops do not get any caulk “Seal” between the countertop until it’s tiled and we do not tile. In the pictures provided by ****** it shows caulk between the countertops and cabinets. This is nothing we normally do and we were not prepared to fix others' mistakes. The cabinets were out of level so we have to shim the countertops level. So there is a gap between the cabinets and countertop and ****** asked to have it “sealed” and brought my team caulk that he had available. This is something we very seldom do for clients as the contractors make the corrections themselves. We only install countertops and don’t facilitate “Finish” work.Top Fabricators Installation team on May 3rd completed the New Countertops to Mr. ****** satisfaction and paid the balance due in full.Fast forward 3 weeks after installation and now we are communicating about this situation. On May 28th we have Facebook posts from Mrs. and Mr. ****** trying to hurt our reputation through negative posts. This is not the way to communicate and they have only sent some text to Keith on his phone. Due to the holidays the team hasn’t been together to communicate. Best,***** ******

      Customer response

      06/04/2022

Better Business Bureau: I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below. There is no accountability for mistakes this business made. Their response is an attempt to blame their errors on the general contractor involved in the remodel. Keith from top fab, was present to measure after the cabinets were installed while the general contractor was still present and was made aware of proper dimensions and need for overhang due to trim needed to complete the job. We reached out to the business via text and phone calls several times. Initially we were told the corners and wet sealer could be fixed, the business then backpedaled and said because we paid them and we’re satisfied with the work the day of install. At the time we didn’t know the corners were mismatched, our contractor noticed there was no overhang on the peninsula when he returned to finish his work, and we obviously didn’t know the plumbing was going to fall off either. Keith encouraged us to call with and questions, so we did. We did review the business on Facebook to notify other potential customers that they may want to look elsewhere. No one should have to deal with this lack of accountability and poor craftsmanship. We do not want the job finished by this business as it is clear they have little pride in their work. I chose this option when filing the original complaint because I thought it was the best fit. They have chosen to turn this into a he said she said situation instead of holding themselves to some sort of standards. Regards, ****** ******
