A few months ago, I contacted FFCU about closing my checking account and then I withdrew my money because I no longer live in Rochester, so I have no use for the account since it's a local credit union. I have contacted them multiple times since then about closing my account but they refuse to do so and they continue to charge me banking fees.

      Business response

      12/12/2022

In response to **** ***** complaint submitted to the BBB - I have attached the notes on the account from our Collections Department: On 10/4/2022, **** ***** checking went negative due to an ACH withdrawal in the amount of 87.00 by ****** ** ******.  **** had 85.00 in her account at the time of the ACH withdrawal, leaving her short 2.00 to pay for the ACH withdrawal.  This ACH withdrawal was paid with courtesy pay, leaving 34.00 owed to the Credit Union, the $2.00 plus the $32.00 fee. On 10/25/2022, I sent a text to the **** to contact me and a negative first balance letter notice. On 10/28/2022, I sent an email to **** to contact me regarding her account. On 11/1/2022, I sent a text to **** to contact me. **** responded back to me and asked that I email her because she was working and could not call or receive text messages.  I sent her an email informing her that her checking was negative $34.00 since 10/4/2022 and asked when she would be bringing the account to a positive status. **** responds back with: “I contacted customer service about closing my account before 10/4/2022.  Sorry, but I am not putting money into an account that I requested to be closed over a month ago. I responded back with; the account cannot be closed with a negative balance. Please stop into a branch and bring the account positive to avoid any negative credit reporting. On 11/4/2022, I mailed **** a 2nd negative balance letter notice. On 11/15/2022, I mailed Ania a final demand negative balance letter. On 11/18/2022, I closed membership and applied the 5.00 required share deposit toward the negative balance, leaving a balance of $29.00 owed to the Credit Union and charged of the negative balance per policy.  This resulted in a negative mark on her credit report. There are no notes on ****** account that she requested the account to be closed.
