On Wednesday, 4/27/22, Sunset Sealcoating was hired to roll and aerate our lawn as well as our neighbors. During the rolling and aeration, the roller crashed into my retaining wall causing a significant amount of bricks (12-15 curved feet) to fall, break, and/or shift. We were alerted to this by our neighbor and to come outside to see one of the workers trying to restack the wall. We asked for them to stop stacking the bricks because it would need professional repair. After some discussion, the driver of the roller became irate and was yelling at us. We were not happy with the hostile environment he was creating, so my wife said, “I do not like his anger and the way he is speaking to us. This job is done he needs to get off our property.” (All of these events have eyewitnesses and/or were captured and recorded on our Ring doorbell camera.) Since this event on 4/27, we have made several attempts at contacting Sunset Sealcoating to discuss finishing the rolling and aeration as well as paying for the repairs of rebuilding the retaining wall. We personally have yet to hear back from Sunset Sealcoating except for their phone call to my neighbor unprofessionally seeking information about us and using false defamatory remarks of racism from us towards their employees. We do plan to move forward with further legal action seeking financial compensation for the repair of the wall. For full accounting of events, please see the attached PDF. I apologize for the delay in my response, although I was aware that this customer was going to contact you I had been waiting for correspondence in the regular mail and somehow missed this email. This letter is in response the complaint filed against my company Sunset Sealcoating by an unhappy customer assigned ID #********. On the date of this service we had two lawns to service on this street for the neighbors across the street and also this customer. I sent two workers to the properties to roll and the lawns, they serviced the neighbors across the street first and when they finished and spoke with the client to collect payment upon hearing from my worker that they would be going across to service the neighbors they told my workers they may be given a hard time. My workers were a bit confused by the comment but found out soon why the comment was made. The worker who was handling the rolling did lightly bump into the stacked concrete bricks but there was no actual damage to them so he stopped the roller and restacked them as they were. The customer came out of the house in a rage and yelled at my employee, I don’t want to even type the words he said as they are vile and unacceptable but I must tell you so you can understand my refusal to deal with this customer whatsoever. He proceeded to tell my worker to “get his black ass off my property”. His wife even came out and yelled at him to go back in the house and apologized for his behavior. We at Sunset do not discriminate in our hiring nor will we accept racist behavior towards our workers under any circumstances. I told my workers to leave and not to even attempt to collect payment for the rolling work already performed. The customer tried to contact me about finishing the rolling and talk about his bricks but I have not contacted him due to the reasons above. There is no way I will provide any services to this client and we did not cause damage to his property. The worker that was treated abhorrently is one of my best and most loyal workers and was understandably very upset by this treatment and would be available if you would like to speak with him. They also took pictures of the restacked bricks before they left to show there was no damage to them, I am unable to open the pictures that were attached to the email but if there was any damage this was done after we left. Please see the repair invoice for the retaining wall in which the business damaged. I have already had it done and am looking for the business to refund the cost.
