We hired Marcello Home Remodeling on 5/15/23 under contract to finish by 9/30/23 for and paid $20,460.00 to begin the project. Another payment was made on 6/26/23 $19,460.00. 3rd payment on8/9/23 of $5000, 4th payment paid 8/17/23 of $5000. If the project was completed by 9.30.23, we gave him a 2 week extension to 9/14/23 we would have owed a final $9053. The contractor Vinny Marcello didn't show up for days on end with multiple issues, He was sick, on vacation , had a crazy week, his Father fell off a ladder & was in ICU. We tried be patient during all of these issues, he promised each time he would come back to finish. He had phone issues a lot and didn't call back for several days if at all. We had our lawyer send a letter to cancel the contract on 9/11/23, he began coming back here and there. This was a duplex rental that had a fire on 3/3/1/23. We have had loss of rent 3k had to pay the bank a fee for our buyers to have an extension $1181.25 & have 2nd appraisal an extra $125. We paid almost 14k in materials to get the job finished & hired other contractors to meet this new deadline. On 10/6 we sent Vinny Marcello a email & voice mail to come pick up his tools, we can't count on him. We are paying out of pocket another contractor so we don't lose the sale of the property. The buyer has paid fees to purchase the house, a lot of us are affected by his lack of work ethic, he lied each time he said he would finish by our deadline and didn't come back or call for 6 days last week. Our current deadline was 10/13/23, we just paid more money to get a last extension & are hiring other contractors to get our job done that final cost isn't in yet. We feel he needs to return part of our money. We asked multiple time s for receipts to see what he spent on any materials & labor. We are requesting a refund of 20k. He did pick up his tools, we changed the locks. We don't want any other property owners going through this 5 months rollercoaster ride like we have, with poor workmanship on the work he did., a lot has been pulled apart and redone. We do have pictures and people willing to sign documents. He is preoccupied with buying his first home @ 20 years old and really put us on the back burner to get burned again.
