After reading the other review here about Blue Bear, I am suspicious they are out to defraud policy holders and possibly in conjunction with an insurance company willing to spend your policy limits on their bill to deny you rightful proceeds for your damages. I hired Blue Bear to clean a sewage backup in my basement and n February 2022 because the insurance company could not give me anyone that worked directly with them. After fighting with my insurance company, I finally got them to authorize the claim 2 days later. Blue bear kept delaying the clean up and finding excuses to keep adding equipment to “maintain” the situation. First it was not having the staff to clean, then it became my responsibility to handle disposal of the sewage and waste water because my drain was broken. They insisted I go to a plumber of their choosing to fix the drain or they would dump me and leave me to clean the mess. The plumbers added to the delay because they were not qualified to do the work. I immediately went to a highly rated plumbing company who ultimately fixed my pipes but at a high price around $10k. I eventually got a septic company to remove the waste after Blue bear put it in containers on my driveway. They kept insisting they had no way to dispose of it legally or it was too expensive. I later found from Tony, the Owner, that they absolutely could have done disposal. It costed me personally $300.00 to do it, Blue bear would have charged several times that to my insurance. Blue bear finally got to cleaning 5 days after the insurance authorized the claim and after I removed their excuses. I then ordered them out the next day after they added 14 fans daisy changed together that took out my electric. I never authorized that much equipment because I had a small box. My insurance company never sent an adjuster, claimed restoration work was more expensive than I thought and shut me out of the bill process despite my objections and having no contract w/ Blue Bear.

We hired Blue Bear Restoration to do some flood mitigation. The workmen were always polite and in the beginning we had no complaints. However, they have been tricky to be involved with. After taking care of water damage in our house, they submitted a bill for $21,000 to the insurance company. Our insurance (***** ****) sent out a third party to investigate, and that person said that the job should have been a $4,000 job. (Indeed, ***** **** at this point sends out a letter warning people against using them.) Among other things, the third party investigator claimed that Blue Bear they about 3 times the number of fans needed (in our case, they had over 15 fans packed into our den, all daisy-chained together, so that we feared a fire hazard), and tend to declare the category 2 situation (mildly contaminated water) a category 3 situation (basically, sewage), which allows them to seriously inflate the bill. They slapped the category 3 label on when they found mouse droppings in our house. (Again, according to the third party investigator, this is not a reasonable practice in line with industry standards. From what I understand, there are lots of folks currently in the same boat as us -- people, namely, who hired this company to clean up a mess and, thanks to their business practices, are now having to deal with another kind of mess.) I am not an expert in the field and cannot evaluate how much the bill was or was not inflated. I also believe that people should certainly get paid fairly. (What is fair in this case, once again, is not something I can evaluate.) The insurance company's representative says one thing (namely, that Blue Bear Restoration is attempting to scam the insurance companies) and Blue Bear claims that the insurance company is acting illegally. The truth, like all truths, is probably somewhere in the middle. However, I just got off the phone with a person at their office (Tony) who was quite aggressive with me and threatened to put a lien on my house if I did not take Blue Bear's part with the insurance company. In the end, I have to strongly advocate going with someone else for mitigation jobs.
