We bought fire place doors in July of 2023. The company has not responded to emails, calls. We even showed up to the show room address and no one was there and the place was empty. **** has reviews of a 1 and constant reviews that this company SCAMs peopleCustomer response

I hired *** in January to repair my fireplace. I ordered cracked glass to cover the burner. He also advised me that I needed my chimney to be pointed and a liner. I agreed for him to do the work and paid him around $11,000. He also gave me a 10 year guarantee on the chimney work. If the cement cracked, chipped etc he would come and fix it for free.The day of installation, he changed the order without getting my consent and brought glass marbles instead of *****************. When I questioned him, he responded that he is doing me a favor and the marbles are more expensive. This is not true. When the marbles were placed on the burner, the weight of them didn't allow the gas to go thru the burner pipes. My entire house was filled with gas and created a very dangerous situation. His employee explained the situation to *** and told him that marbles aren't suitable for this burner. *** agreed to order what I wanted and I would return the marbles to him. I would ask him for updates and he would constantly tell me ***************** is on backorder. Three months later and now he stopped responding to me. I texted him stating that the cement cracked, my fireplace doesn't work and he charged me for a chase pan that was never installed! This man is a *****! I will be taking him to court!Customer response

We requested an estimate on November 11, 2022 for fireplace doors and chimney sweeping. The estimate was for $3,591 and $2,500 was given as a deposit on November 11, 2022 for ordering the fireplace. He said the fireplace doors would be installed in early January 2023, and after not hearing from the company, we contacted the owner in early February, and he said that his vendor making the fireplace was delayed, but the fireplace would be installed in two weeks from that date. After no contact for several more weeks, we have tried calling the business, and they do not answer the phone or return messages. They called back once and hung up immediately after realizing who they had called. They have over 600 ****** reviews at a 4.9 star rating, but these reviews are clearly fake, as you cannot click on any of the positive reviews accounts because they are locked. The 1 star reviews, which I should have looked at, all talk about how these people take money and do not ever do the work contracted for. I am going to visit the store, but the 1 star reviews say it is just paper covering windows with no actual business.Initial Complaint

In January 2023 I contacted Blackman ************** (aka Blackman Home Care ***)(aka Blackman Fireplace) located at :44 ********** ,********************************* **************. Originally I stopped at the business address to find a building that was locked and appeared out of business. When I called the business number the owner,*****************, told me he was renovating the location and was out for supplies.. As of today, February 13,2023 it is in the same rundown condition. I decided to have him lock at my gas fireplace to make repairs anyway because I found on line his business had very good reviews. He gave me an invoice for the agreed upon work and took my check for $3580 for the parts he claimed he had to order. ****** told me it would be 2 to 3 weeks for the part. I have reached out to him by phone a few times and keep getting the part is still on order story. Since he cashed my check no work has been done and the part is still "On Order". A little more digging into his business and I have turned up many serious complaints about him stealing clients deposits and doing partial work and never returning to complete the work. I am asking the Better Business Bureau to contact the Blackman Wood Stove ********************** *** business to help me get my deposit back. I am afraid like so many other of his customers I will never get my money back and at this point I am worried if he does start the work it may never be finished properly.Please advise me Astorias what the next step will be.Thank you ******* and *************************** ****************** *************Initial Complaint

I hired this company to service my pellet stove. When I originally called I said we hadnt had the pellet stove serviced and was told it would be $600 to have the stove cleaned because it would take hours and be very dirty. I said fine. Then I texted again a few days later to say actually we had it serviced last year and I described precisely what my husband said he thought was wrong with it. I was told he would come assess the issue. Then he comes, says it requires expensive parts to fix the issue (smoke entering the house), and he charged me $600 to do nothing. When I said this was unacceptable hr said he traveled from Long Island so it included travel time. He was at my house for one hour. Assuming it takes him an hour to get to Westchester (it doesnt) and n hour home, I paid him $200 per hour for his travel time. And nothing is fixed. This was a total waste of time. I have never dealt with such a slimy company.Customer response

On November 30, 2021 a representative of the company and a man who I believed was a technician came to my house, in response to my call for an estimate for my home gas fireplace repair. They said I needed a new blower, pilot assembly, and corrosion treatment and painting. I added in new embers and lava rock. With labor and tax the price was *******. He said he needed a check for 2/3 so he could order the parts. At this I should have told him no, but I wanted my fireplace fixed. So I gave him a deposit of ****. He said he would call in two weeks to schedule when the parts came on. I called him repeatedly. At times he became nasty with me. He has called out of the blue to schedule, but it was always a date I was unavailable and he would never let me schedule in advance. Finally I told him we have to put a date on the schedule, I am too busy for you to call last minute. We scheduled for 4/19 at 8. When he did not come my husband called and he said he was on a job since 5:30 and hoped to get to us today or tomorrow. He got verbally abusive to my husband when my husband pressed about how he could put someone on the schedule without calling us to reschedule or share the time would change. Our fireplace is still not fixed and judging from the other complaints I doubt it will be. Twice the owner said he called me to schedule four times, but I did not answer, I do not have any record on my phone of his attempts or messages.Customer response

On December 28,2021, Blackman Wood and Stove aka Blackman Home Care quoted me to fix my non- working fireplace. ****** said that I needed embers, lava rock, pilot assembly, remote assembly, cleaning, and two sand bags which in total would cost me $1359.00. He asked for a deposit and we gave him $700.00 check. After many text messages and phone calls, ****** would give both my husband and me excuse after excuse as to the limited supply chain and how difficult it was to get the parts he promised to get us. He offered me a refund which I agreed upon. After many months, I have still not received my refund.I called in another company and as it turned out, the remote receiver wire was loose and that was the cause of my non - working fireplace. It cost me $250.00 for the service call. No parts were needed.Initial Complaint

on 3/9/21 (dated invoice attached) I had this company come to my house for an estimate for fireplace repair. ***** was the name of the gentleman who came to my house to give a "free estimate". He assessed my fireplace and said I needed parts and repairs which would totatl $1600. He requested $1000 to order the parts, which I promptly gave him with a personal check. He refused to take it on a credit card. It is now 11 months later and after many phone calls and trying to get either the work done or a refund, ***** has not responded with any resolution. And in fact on the last phoine call (I believe the 11th time I called him) he hung up on me. I have no other recourse thatn to try to get thne BBB help in getting my refund. At this point, I wouldnt even want him to do the work.Customer response
