I am writing you because of how abusively my partner and I were treated by a hotel property that I booked over July 4th weekend. We booked a “Deluxe Double” room from 7/1 - 7/4 with a lake view (and terrace) on ******* earlier in the week, hoping to enjoy a much-needed vacation. The room that was advertised on ******* was beautiful - with carpeting, sweeping lake views, and a terrace. What we got was a converted basement garage room with no patio, a limited lake view, stained chairs, and a duck-taped broken A/C. Moreover, the check-in staff said that they "never have sold that room" and they thought it was a mistake as apparently only the owner's mother-in-law stays there. When we complained nicely to the staff, we were told that we needed to pay an additional $130 to get the room that we had already booked. We were told that the owner wouldn't speak to us until the following day (Sat 7/2). After stewing over it for a couple of hours, I returned to the hotel and demanded a call with the owner. When we spoke directly to the owner, Daniel B********* he was nasty, abusive, and threatening: “I am the owner, and I can be as disrespectful as I want.” He refused to refund our money, and so we left feeling humiliated and bullied. I am hoping that there is something you can do to get me the refund that I feel I deserve. Plus, I think that you should be aware of the misleading scam that is advertised on *******, and the abusive owner. From what have learned from the Chamber of Commerce, he has a reputation in town for being toxic and disrespectful. Plus, he is price gauging - he put us in the room where his mother-in-law lived to up the price for our room and re-advertise via *******. I wonder if my partner and I were singled out because we are gay.
