I have an additional timeline, that is too large to fit here. -On 11/16/23 we were quoted a price of 56,500 to install a pool, with an electric pool cover, and at the time Ed from Keil Pools was asking for a deposit. At this time we could not commit as we were closing on our house in 1/23. On 1/31/23 he gave us a different quote for $67,500 for the pool and electric pool cover, saying he could not honor the original quote. On 2/8/23 we decide to give him a $7,000 deposit on his 3rd quote for $53,500 without the electric pool cover. He informed us that he would start in mid-June On 2/8/23 he informed us that the deposit was for the pool liner. Once we gave him the deposit, the only communication we had was when I had to chase him down to get any type of commitment on the project. The start date for the pool changed from mid-june to Mid-July to Mid August. On 7/22/23 I set up an appointment for him to come to the house, and he never showed up. On 7/23/23 he did come to the house, but we were not there as we were out of town. On 7/23/23 I spoke to Ed on the phone to discuss the plans. During our conversation I was concerned about his bad review on BBB, and at that point he hung up on me. On 8/2/23 after not hearing from his company since 7/23/23 I called and informed him that I do not want him to install our pool. On 8/2/23 I asked for our $7,000 deposit and he refused to give us our deposit. I asked him what is the $7,000 for and he informed me it was for the pool wall. This contradicted his original statement that it was for the pool liner. He stated that we had a signed contract, but we never signed the contract as it was done in a very unprofessional matter, handwritten scribble. He came recommended to us from our Realtor, and we thought Keil Pools was reputable. See attached additional documents

In July of 2020, we signed a contract to have a pool built by Ed Keil. We were told the pool would be built late summer 2020 or early fall of 2020. We gave him a $2000 deposit, then heard nothing from Ed Keil for several months. My husband reached out in late September several times with no response and finally got a short text response in October 2020 saying that they "expected to dig soon." We then heard nothing from him for several months. I reached out in May of 2021 and he said that he expected to build the pool in June. Never heard from him. By August 2021 we decided to relocate to Massachusetts, and reached out to Ed to tell him we no longer wanted to build a pool since we are selling our home. We requested our deposit back. He said "we signed on to build a pool" and he would not return our deposit. We are requesting our full deposit back, as we signed on to build a pool over a year ago and not whenever he felt like showing up- if at all. Now our plans have changed.

      Business response

      11/05/2021

BBB called the business who explained that they had ordered parts for the pool and had obtained a permit, in order to complete the project but that delays from COVID interfered with the completion. The owner explained that the consumer broke the contract by backing out of the deal although work had already been done on the project.

      Customer response

      11/05/2021

Better Business Bureau: I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below. This business is lying, plain and simple.  If he had gotten a permit for the pool, does he have any proof?  He never informed us of any permit, nor did we hear about any permit from our town or anyone else.  If a permit to build a pool had been obtained for our property, we would have been notified.  Ed Keil is simply not an honest person and he has made it his habit to outright lie. No work was done for the pool -- that is also a lie.  This business is using COVID as an excuse.  If COVID caused delays, as he is claiming, he should have been in touch with us, considering he happily took our deposit.  He did not reach out once to let us know that COVID was causing a delay, and is only making that claim now that we are asking for our deposit back.  There is really no point in trying to resolve this matter with a business that is only going to lie over an over again.   Regards, ***** *****
