On May 28, 2024, I entered into a lease agreement with Romano Mazda for a 2024 Mazda CX-5. The agreement was based on a 2-Month Waiver, under which I was led to believe that I would not be responsible for the remaining balance on my 2021 Mazda lease. Upon executing the new lease, I was not informed by the salesman or Mazda representatives that I needed to cancel the autopay for the previous lease. Subsequently, $400 was deducted from my account for the 2021 lease by the bank, without any notification or the opportunity to receive a refund. Upon contacting Mazda Financial Services, I was informed that it was too late to refund the payment, as they needed to appraise the car for potential damages before making any decision regarding the refund. They retained funds that were not rightfully theirs. In June 2024, during a follow-up meeting with Romano Mazda, I was advised that they had no plans to purchase the 2021 Mazda initially. However, they suggested that I might receive a refund if I contacted Mazda Financial Services and provided supporting documentation showing that I had taken possession of the new vehicle before the autopay deduction was initiated. When I later contacted Mazda Financial Services, I was informed that since Romano Mazda had already purchased the 2021 vehicle, I was no longer eligible for a refund. I was never informed that Romano Mazda had purchased the 2021 Mazda after its appraisal and the deduction of the $400. As a result, Romano Mazda retained funds that were not rightfully theirs. I contacted Mazda Corporation, which assigned a case manager to my situation, but I have not received any follow-up communication. As a result, I escalated the matter to the Better Business Bureau (BBB). I am seeking a refund of the $401.65 deducted via autopay, compensation for the time and inconvenience caused by this issue, and the ability to return the new vehicle without incurring any fees.
