My two star rating isn’t based on painting ability. It’s based on trustworthiness. I was working out of town, but kept my house because I just didn’t have time get it read-to-sell, and also had a feeling there would be a likelihood that I’d end up back in the Binghamton area. After two years away, the outside of the house started to look like one of those houses that the city condemns and then tears down. I had exterior repairs done, and then arranged to have it painted. I did move back after another year. And now living back here, it has become apparent that Picketts made a calculated decision to skip painting every little section of the house that I wouldn’t notice upon driving back to the area, taking a quick walk-around inspection of the house, and then having to hustle back to where I was living. Let’s say for the sake of this review that the house is mostly a nice powder blue with black shutters and black trim and overhangs. Upon returning a year after the painting job was done, I started to notice a threshold here, a piece of trim there, that was never painted black. They had to notice before they started painted which areas were supposed to be black. After all, they got the big things—the shutters and the overhangs correct. I have two front doors. I never use one of them. Today, a year after the job was done, I finally opened up the screen door to that front door I never use, and discovered that they never bothered to paint it. Sure, because who would open up the screen door and check. You’d just take it for granted, since everything else looked fine. This business has been around for about 30 years, so this couldn’t have been that they “forgot.” All these places were left untouched knowing that I wasn’t living there and that I’d discover they had never been painted long after I handed off the check. This, clearly, was a plan. They wanted to save a half a day’s work.
