On 6/3/2021 I needed to leave the ***************** due to weakness and pain in my left knee. Shuttle brought me to St Anthonys ********************* On ****** in hallway outside a pt cubicle x3 hours. Heard and observed situations which may have violated privacy of pts in the cubicles. Was not asked to stand nor was my walking gait evaluated. Declined X-ray as the ** had no MRI for follow up. Given shot of dexamethasone; asked to sign a form letting Hospital advocate for me with [my] insurance. Told to see an orthopedist if no improvement. Given script for tapering dose of prednisone. Saw orthopedist 6/8/2021; stress fracture suspected immediately due to observation of my gait, and confirmed via MRI. My insurance covered the orthopedist. My insurance denied st anthonys; and indicated I owed nothing further. The **** was resubmitted by st anthonys and then my insurance (via phone, contacted by st anthonys) agreed I owed st anthonys. I called the st anthonys number for financial assistance; explained what had transpired. If I were to pay st anthonys, it would feel like a charitable donation, not a fee for services. Was asked to submit forms from the orthopedist for review, told my case was being flagged for review. FAXed 11 pp to the ******* ** st anthonys as requested, on 10/27/2021. Still awaiting a status update from that submission. Then yesterday, received another **** (called Final notice) from st anthonys. I have again responded to them that I am awaiting determination from the review. I have also attempted to contact st anthonys regarding the form I signed authorizing them to interface with my insurance (since in my experience that was an unusual request) but could not reach anyone via phone for that, in Warwick. My only phone contact was in *******. My hope is that st anthonys will agree that given the lack of facilities and lack of correct diagnosis, I will owe at most a $20 copay; or zero, as my insurance originally indicated.
