On Feb. 10, 2024, I received in the mail an ad from Garber Subaru, Webster, NY, naming Jeff H**** as the sender. It was a letter to me, stating that Garber "needs to purchase a 2022 ******," and a "Buy-Back Voucher" indicating a value of up to $30,115. I visited Garber on Feb. 11, 2024. After discussing my current car and current loan balance, I was told they would drive my car to evaluate it. I observed my car for the next 30-45 minutes, and it never moved. I did see a man I believe to be Mr. H**** take pictures of my car. After a long wait, the Sales Rep appeared and said, "There is been a huge mistake. We did not send these letters." I asked if they were going to honor the offer and the Sales Rep stated that they would offer a ***** Book price, but it would not resemble the numbers on the voucher. He asked if I would consider an offer. He later handed me a printed document showing payment options for the car we discussed. The Trade Allowance quoted was $21,775 - more than $8,000 less than I had been led to believe. Without driving my car, what could be the reason for the lower offer? The Sales Rep told me I could not keep the document, so I took a picture of it. I explained that their issue with who sent the voucher isn't my concern, that I felt I had wasted my Saturday morning believing their advertisement to be true. The Sales Rep accepted no responsibility on Garber's part. His only offer was to introduce me to his Sales Manager. Having lost any shred of trust I had in this business, I asked who I should name in a complaint to the Better Business Bureau, and was again asked to meet the Sales Manager. I was skeptical to begin with, and am wary of infamous bait-and-switch scenarios, so I left the building. I waited two days to hear from Garber with an apology and ownership of responsibility, and received no outreach. Hence, this complaint. I would not have gone to their store if it were not for the mailing they sent to me, and they did not honor their offer.
