In the Fall of 2020, we hired the Stasi Brothers to complete all of our brick work - this included all new pavers for the front walk and steps, and all new pavers in the backyard and back steps. Additionally, they doubled or driveway and completed it with new asphalt and a cement double apron and new sidewalk slabs. The driveway itself is also outlined in pavers. From beginning to end we spoke solely to ***. He requested cash for over ********* for all the pavers and walkways, but willingly accepted a ***** check for the driveway portion in October of 2020. It was beautiful at first but within the first six month the driveway/sidewalk slabs started to crumble (pictures attached). We contacted *** and he said he would come look at it and when contacted again after he did not show up, he said he would look at it when they resumed working in warmer weather. He finally did come in February of 2022, over a year after the work was complete, and sent a crew to repair a portion of it in April 2022. Unfortunately, the repair is now the problem. It is an absolute eyesore. It is a different shade of concrete, they cracked a portion of the apron, and the cement is on the asphalt (also pictured). This work was also done the morning of a day forecasted to have heavy rains as ended up to be the case. We have reached out to *** numerous times to resolve this ourselves but after receiving brief responses stating he would be in touch soon, he has now stopped responding. In the beginning, he was insistent he would warranty all the Stasi Brother work, but after being paid over *********, he seems to feel otherwise. If we are unable to come to a resolution via BBB, we will file against the Stasi Brothers.

We did this project in different phases and the project was large but the concrete was a fraction of the job and price.
We did the project to the satisfaction of the customer and came back any time she had a question or concern.

Concrete is not guaranteed by us or anyone else in the industry. We dont have a long list of conditions but 1 of the only 3 things we state on the paperwork is that NOT RESPONSIBLE for cracks or any other defects in concrete The reason no one guarantees concrete is that there are many outside variables that can affect and disrupt concrete outside of anyones control. The biggest culprit, in the northeast, being snow and salt damage.

When the homeowner first called about an issue I stopped by and looked at the work. The work was done before the winter and there was no issue until after the winter and thats when the call came. When I looked at the work I could tell it was salt damage based on my over 20 years of experience and schooling. I explained this to them and since they were good customers of mine and did do other work for them I told them I would replace the one really bad piece at no charge or if they wanted it all changed I would do it for cost out of courtesy to them.
They took me up on replacing the one piece at no charge.Within a week I sent the crews over and replaced the one piece.

Concrete is always going be a different color, shade and texture when poured at different times. I agree that the color and texture is much different with this recent pour so again I will extend the courtesy of replacing the piece one more time to try to match closer but it will definitely be a different color and texture. I will also clean the excess concrete that got onto the asphalt.

Again, we guarantee asphalt and pavers but concrete NO ONE guarantees and we did try a replacement out of courtesy. You can easily ****** salt damage concrete and look at the images and see that its the same issue youre experiencing. Even if you dont put salt down, the town trucks spread it on the road and It gets on the sidewalk. Newer concrete is much more susceptible.

I should have been more clear and possibly explained it better but I hope this clears things up. Have a nice day!

      Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********.  My husband and I are willing to accept that he will repair the damage done.  Some of what he stated is false.  He was very clear that he would guarantee the work and as he stated made a few adjustments that were not up to the quality of work he promised with regards to the pavers and cracked cement (done during the initial phase).  Additionally, the timeline he stated is not accurate and security footage from the house documents this.  As long as the repairs are done in a way that meets what was promised, we are willing to work with ***.  I have attached the pieces that need repair - the color should match, the two side pieces to what he fixed that are now covered with cement and the asphalt that also has cement damage in addition to the piece of the apron that was cracked during the repair.  Additionally, I have attached a picture that show he crossed out the portion he is referring to as he promised Stasi Brothers were the best in the business and the work would be guaranteed (he also never refutes this is any of the text messages when it is stated).  *** also stated that the crumbling concrete is from salt damage but we never instructed by the Stasi Brothers not to use salt and never did.  He then stated that it is from salt on the tires of our vehicles from the road but this is absurd to say the least.  It is nothing more than a bad mix of concrete and we are disappointed *** is unwilling to simply say so.  We would like an estimate for when he will return to correct the repair.  We have a copy of the cancelled check for the driveway for ***** (not ***** alone) as he also did stucco work on the house and we paid him in one check for that portion.  We are hopeful he will deliver on what was promised.

      Sincerely,

      *********************
