In October 2022, I took merchandise to H******* Auctions in Berea, Ohio to submit for auction. The owner John H******* inventoried the merchandise, took possession of the merchandise and we signed a contract for him to auction the merchandise. On December 11th, 2022, I received an email from John H******* with an attached Consignor Settlement receipt totaling $4,414.85 of proceeds which I was to receive. I have not received any payment as of this times. I have emailed John H******* and called him on multiple occasions. I have received multiple reasons for no payment which includes initially the buyer of the merchandise's credit card had been compromised to the check was sent out in the mail. Mr. H******* had mentioned in the last phone call that another customer had the same issue with not receiving her proceed money. I would like help in resolving this issue and I am also concerned this may be happening to other customers.

I have mailed the check twice already. I was not aware that ******* never received the 2nd check. I am not sure why they checks are not making it to the customer. I sent his and the other person that did not receive the check from a different post office this time.. The other person received theirs and cashed it.. I have clients that do not cash for months so again i am not aware that mike never received the 2nd check until this.. I have not talked to him or received anything since we discussed the 1st check did not make it.. I can stop the check again and resend it again or if mike is in the area i will be happy to give him the check in person.. I dont know what else i can do but keep mailing the check.. Please advise on what else you would like me to do..

      Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer (which recommends a suggestion for H******* Auctions) I reviewed appear below.

At this point I believe a reasonable response to "what should I do", would be to mail the check certified first class mail with the United Postal Service.  There is a minimal charge $3,75 which can be taken from the proceeds.  A certified letter can be tracked and H******* auctions will be able to confirm receipt of their issued check.  USPS will guarantee 3-5 day delivery.

I will await the certified check in the mail.  I don't understand why it would be mailed out at first opportunity.  Once the check is received and check is cleared, I will close out the complaint.

This auction company is scamming bidders by extorting them via high shipping fees. I was charged over $31 to ship an item that weighed 3lbs via USPS. I called USPS and they told me that this item could have fit in a flat-rate envelope at a total cost of $8. I’ve read other reviews about this auction company and have seen similar situations of exorbitant shipping fees, so I am sure that I am not the only person that this has happened to. If the auction company wishes to continue charging 60% more than what shipping truly costs, then they must make this information available.

Customer was not happy about the cost of the shipping to CA from Ohio. As we state in our Terms and Conditions we charge $6.00 1st lot and $3.00 per lot after with a max of $25.00 per box. He had 1 item so we charged $6.00.. Our time to box, Tape, Peanuts, Label, ink, ect.. The item was securely packaged in a Priority Mail box, Protected with Bubblewrap and Packing peanuts. We do not use flat rated boxes since 90% of the time they are less cost effective for the people that want their items shipped. This customer sells on **** and get to use their discount since the are a larger company and has a special shipping cost.. This customer also want to put the item in a smaller box that would not give the proper distance and protection to make sure the item would safely make to it destination. If there was an issue with the shipping the USPS would not cover the cost. As discussed on the phone when the customer was calling and being verbally insulting. Therefore we were not going to repack the item as requested. As he also requested i looked up the cost for the medium flat rate box that he insisted would be 10-14 which in fact would of been 17.50 from what quick calculation system said. However the bidder demanded me to refund the amount for the shipping and handling, and the item. We do not do refunds for the items since he signed and agreed to the terms and conditions. Since the package has already been handled properly we will not refund the handling cost either.. He has asked for the item to be forfeited so the shipping cost will be refunded as requested.. I have a screen shot that say that the cost of the box to be shipped was 25.05.. I have also placed the wording on his google review as well.. Any questions please reach out and i will be happy to discuss this with anyone.. This a false and unprofessional accusation and would like it to be removed since we did nothing wrong.. Thank you John

The auctioneer is continuing on and on about this and that and how he is right, etc. etc. etc. Just refund all of the money and move on. I am sure that whoever reads this issue will agree that charging $31.05 to ship a pair of binoculars is excessive. Now Handline has sent back $25 and plans on keeping the other $6 and the binoculars that I paid for. How does that make sense? Regarding the auctioneers attitude, sure you catch more flies with honey, but if you’d done good business, I wouldn’t care if you were polite or not. Fix this.

      Regards,
