Metropet has cared for our animals (dog, cats, and ferrets) for 30 years. We are more than happy with the care they've received. Have the outcomes always been positive? Certainly not. In spite of medicine's best efforts, sometimes animals (and humans) die. All of the employees seem to be very compassionate (from Doc Alice down to the receptionists.) Is veterinary care expensive? It can be which, is why several care plans are usually provided. I was a registered nurse for almost 40 years, ten of them working in surgery. Surgical residents frequently assist with operations and in many cases perform almost the entire surgery. I agree that the patient or the owner should be apprised of this fact. No entity is perfect but Metropet comes pretty close. We wouldn't go anywhere else. I would make one suggestion and that is that more of the associate vets in the practice should be exotic certified. Bottom line, I would highly recommend this veterinary practice.

I do not recommend taking your pet to these people, the prey on your stress and emotions to inflate the invoice. Took my 3yr old blue heeler to them because he had been throwing up for over 24 hours. (heelers are known for being pretty healthy dogs) I told the vet that the dog was still pooping and peeing besides throwing up. Her 1st suggestion was to do x-rays at a cost of $250 and another $125 to read them. The vet comment was if there is a blockage we will have to do emergency surgery. (that comment is just to prey on your emotions) There was no second indication e-rays were need, no tender/sore/hard spots on the dog stomach/intestine areas. The vet commended that the dog was not dehydrated but the still charged me $80 for an IV that was not needed. Next the vet recommended blood work, they could do it faster in-house then sending it out but it would cost more. (another comment preying on your emotions) Then they charged me around $80 for a shot of medicine to help with the upset stomach, then gave me 3-4 supply of the same meds in pill form for $58. After the shot my dog had diarrhea for 24 hours and was all better in a couple of days. Bottom line my bill should have been for a checkup & meds for an upset stomach coming to under $150 instead of the $600 that they charged me.

Sir, we are truly sorry for this impression you have of us. We will always recommend what is best for your pet regardless of the cost. This way, you have the knowledge and education on optimal health care and services. When owners can not afford services, or if they want to be more conservative to start, that is always an option and one many clients start with. We are not here to prey on you, we are here to explain and do the best for you and your pet as a team. One example is sometimes owners want the blood work results fast, we like to be upfront on the costs. Another example is us going over estimates for the ideal services, and making a plan for what is best for you at the time. Again, we do apologize you felt this way, and we are so glad your boy is doing better!

DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE! To start, I am a healthcare professional. I researched local exotic veterinarians to find a qualified provider to spay my 9 month old female rabbit. Spaying a rabbit is a high risk surgery, as they do not do well under anesthesia. I found Dr. Alice T******* and was reassured that she was exotic animal certified and had done hundreds to rabbits spays/neutering. I consented to have Dr. T******* perform the procedure. On the day of surgery, I dropped my rabbit off at 8:20am. I received a text message at 11:13am telling me that my rabbit was in surgery. I then received a phone call at 1:05pm saying that my rabbit was out of surgery and doing well. No complications. I was concerned that my rabbit had been in surgery and under anesthesia for almost 2 hours. This procedure should take at most 30-45 minutes without complications. I was told my rabbit would be ready for pick up at 3pm (only 2 hours of observation for a 2 hour procedure?!) I picked her up at 3pm and was handed an essentially unresponsive rabbit. I was told my the vet tech who brought her out to the car for me that " this was normal, she was under anesthesia a longer amount of time because a brand new vet they were training performed the surgery." "But, not to worry Dr. T******* was in the room with them. Your rabbit will probably be like this the rest of the night." Not 40 mins after bringing her home she was dead. I never consented to have a high risk surgery performed by a brand new vet! It was careless to allow a brand new vet to take 2 hours to spay my rabbit. Leaving her under anesthesia for an unnecessary amount of time in order to train a new vet! They risked her life to allow a new brand to "try" a surgery. This risk, cost my pet her life. This is a deceitful and reckless medicine practice. Shame on Metropet for allowing this sort "accident" to happen. Save yourself the heartache and take your beloved pet anywhere else.

UPDATE, I did receive a call from Dr. T*******. She was very understanding and receptive to my concerns. She was never made aware that I wanted her specifically to perform the surgery. Metropet will be reviewing procedures for surgical consent/discharge so that this doesn't happen again.

This is devastating and we are heartbroken. We will be following up to discuss everything with the owner.
